This is a wonderous illustration. I literally just read the short story and this is as if you pulled the images straight from the book's pages.

Having recently read the story, as well as a few others by lovecraft, I can honestly say that this is a great picture.

Fantastic job!! All the fins and scaly skin look great! Wish you had given your lovely mermaid webbed fingers like his...though softer and more feminine

At first I was going for a more wicked look, with more fins and webbed fingers and things like that... but I tought that my sister would like it more this way XD

Ha! Girls!! I hope you get a chance to do the 'wicked' mermaid you described sometime soon...with your style, she'd definitely be something to see!! Along the lines of Lovecraft and this piece, another Lovecraftian character that would be cool to see is a girl with the "Innsmouth Look" ...a human/deep-one offspring...basically an otherwise drop-dead gorgeous girl, but with gills, fins, and webbed hands & feet. Now that would be a sight to behold, too!!

Amazing not as i always imagined it, but who cares, that's an awesome Dagon! A technical question: the carvings on the obelisk: have you decided their shape "while" makin em, or you made some little previews on another sheet to have a general idea of how they should have looked?

BrokenMachine86 In reply to Gurdim [2012-12-14 17:28:53 +0000 UTC]

Thansk so much! And answering to your question: I did little quick designs on a diferent piece of paper, then I sketch them in the drawing to make them fit the proportions of the obelisk before drawing over them with shadows and textures.

I did the same drawing recently. Your is better! I love how you managed to do the whole thing in black and white, I had to resort to colouring. And I love that you actually are faithful to the description of Dagon as being human-looking. Oh and the details of the decaying fish too!

You are drawn right away to the creatures face. Then slowly your sight is encompassed by the crushing waves. Only then do you notice the man standing in the same dumbstruck awe that I stand in.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

BrokenMachine86 In reply to Cosmius [2011-09-07 15:17:50 +0000 UTC]
