Description
Much like Nemesis and the Archon, Death Machine is an older villainous legacy rebranded into a more powerful, dangerous, and cunning form. Just like how Power Knight of the Coalition of Champions is a diversionary evolution of the Defengine legacy, so too Death Machine is a divergent evolution of two of Defengine's primary adversaries: the coldly calculating villainous AI and robotic menace called Revengine, and its creator, Defengine's archnemesis, Victor Valand.Valand had created Revengine as the ultimate antithesis to Defengine. But his creation exceeded his vision, going on to becoming one of the great singular menaces of the Allegiance and Coalition of Champions during the heyday of both teams. In the meantime, Valand increasingly added more and more technological implants and prosthetics to himself to both extend his life and combat Defengine. By the time the Super War rolled around, he was more machine than man. Both Valand and Revengine participated as members of the villainous alliance gathered together by Malek Khan to start the Super War, and like a lot of the old guard villains, they appeared to be killed or vanished following the conflict's shift into the Skarn Invasion. As always with these presumed ends, the truth was stranger and more complex than anyone realized.
Victor and Revengine begrudgingly assisted the Grand Assembly of heroes formed to opposed the Skarn. But during one of the battles, the duo were both badly damaged by the superior technology and firepower of the Skarn. However, Revengine had been studying the Skarn, and was quickly reverse engineering new devices as he came across them. Unfortunately, Revengine had not yet figured out how to merge with and absorb the Skarn and their war machines in order to continue functioning and build a new body. It needed time, but the damage it had received was too severe. Similarly, Valand was dying from his wounds, and unable to reach for any help. Except Revengine. Creator and creation came to a bargain: by joining together as one entity, they could preserve each other and give themselves the time needed to heal, repair, and reap the benefits of incorporating the reverse engineered Skarn technology into their body.
The initial hybrid ReValangine entity was still somewhat shaky and confused, and crawled off to hide as the Invasion continued. It lurked at the edges of battles, salvaging the wreckage of slain Skarn and their vehicles. And in hiding, the entity began to repair, rebuild, and upgrade. Over time, the mind of Victor Valand and the Revengine AI began to blend into each other and merge. There is still a vague sense of duality even today, but otherwise two minds sharing the same cyborg body eventually became one. That was the day Death Machine was born.
As Death Machine began to make sense of itself and what it was, it ventured back out into the greater world from its hiding place. It entered the internet and other communication networks, gathering information on what had happened and any pieces of technological progress that might prove useful. It discovered that Defengine had a legacy in the heroes Avengine and Power Knight, and how a new killer robot was active under the name of Revengine. Death Machine greatly desired to finish where its component entities had left off, but then something happened: it met an old friend.
Except, not exactly. Death Machine did not recognize the Archon for what he truly was: the superpowered drone of the psychic mastermind and contemporary villain of Victor Valand: Robert Vane. Initially the two came to blows, Death Machine thinking that the Archon was some sort of new legacy of Captain Meteor. In the old days, Meteor was one of the few heroes who could single-handily defeat Revengine; but now, Death Machine had access to Skarn technology, and the bleeding edge technologies stolen from numerous present day organizations, heroes, and villains. Death Machine acquitted itself well against the Archon. But this was all part of Vane's plan. Using his telepathy and past knowledge of Revengine and Victor Valand, he was able to convince Death Machine that they were both actually on the same side, and would benefit more from an alliance than beating each other to death. The remnants of Valand's mind within the gestalt intelligence of Death Machine stirred at the Archon's words, and began to listen.
After hearing out the Archon and his explanation of the secret alliance he had formed with several other ultra-powerful villains, Death Machine accepted, the Valand half of its mind convincing the more suspicious Revengine AI portion that it was not an alliance of completely blind faith, and that after studying their new "allies" and learning all of their secrets, Death Machine could turn on them if things didn't work out. Thus, Death Machine joined the Overlords. While some other members like the Archon, Kharyon Queen, and the Purifier offered various avenues of technological access and prowess, Death Machine truly brought an exceptional affinity with technology and machines to the Overlords, enabling numerous possibilities for their future plans.
For now, Death Machine remains pivitol, but the gestalt mind remains cautious and skeptical about its supposed indispensability in the group. It is cautiously biding its time, awaiting whatever surprises or betrayals the other members might pull. That it cannot hack into the subtle circuitry of the Purifier's outfit alone has convinced it to maintain its guard. But otherwise, it works with its new cabal of allies, biding the time for when it can exact vengeance upon Defengine, Avengine, Power Knight, and the imposter Revengine.

You sure this guy's name isn't "90s-Bot" .
I like the backstory. Defengine's not a name I've heard before looking at your stuff, nor do I recognize Avengine & Power Knight.
