Lol I had to quickly make an 8 hour costume and thanks to this design I think I pulled it off for a first timer using eva foam. I didn't use it for Azula though xD I made some modification to use it for my Dr Fate costume haha

Thank you for posting these plans. I am using these plans to make Zuko's armor. Could you tell me how you connected the arm guards to the shoulder pads and how you connected the breast and back guards to the shoulder pad?

How long did it take you to make? Somehow I doubt I could have it made by Otakon.

I think it was a good 50 hours, though there was some trial and error stuff I worked through. Then again, I usually start a cosplay project 4 months before the con I'm going to...

I know you put this up like a year ago, but I'm making an Azula cosplay. Do you have any tips on how to make the part under the armor?

Do you mean the black "light armor" or the red "undershirt"?

I don't remember the exact pattern I used, but look for something with a mandarin collar that opens with a slit straight down. (the diagonal under the shoulder slit is so hard to do, and you're not even going to see it.) What Azula wears, in truth, looks more like a turtle neck, but I decided to go authentic with the mandarin collar.
Remember to leave the sleeves like 6 inches longer than the pattern says to, and take them in at the wrist and flare them out at the 'over your hand cuff' part... but don't take them in so much you can't get your hand through... learned that the hard way.
If you have any in depth questions, or want me to post any close up shots of something, just let me know, and happy cosplaying!!

I would start with the McCalls M4440 pattern for the bottom, use something heavy like denim or twill then use matte vinyl for the top. (It'll be in the section for making sofa cushions or something.)
For the top, you'll also need very thick interfacing. look for something that is about a 1/4 of an inch thick.

Amazing ^^!!! think you could apply something similar if you were looking to make Zuko's armour?

Yes, I think they wear the exact same armor.
If you're crossplaying and you're planning to strap the girls down, use two backs instead of a back and a front.

Winters-Avatar In reply to Burning--Ice [2009-07-07 20:52:50 +0000 UTC]
I wish I could go to SDCC, but I live in Florida and I'm broke T-T. So the armor is for megacon we are doing Agni Kai season three Zuko for AFO. heheh and the best part is i'm playing katara so i get my zutara fix even though zuko is a kataanger. , oh the perks of dating an avatar cosplayer

I'm glad, I've done a lot of sewing myself and it was hard to draft it out.
If you have any questions about materials or sewing technique, feel free to ask.

i'm horrible at those things. sewing is NOT for me.
of course!
i've been doing some in-depth research with this azula armor thing, and the more helpful resources i find, the better.
