Art from Europe, "tableau" as a French word, it indeed does fit that particular and sensitive photograph.
Tableau as a frame, yes. Frames even, frames in a frame, clearly separated but giving one lively result.
Playing with colors and tones, bright in its center where humans - that could be seen as Life - are in motion, and dark all around.
Light, symbol of life, but what about dark (or darkness ?) ? Does it only represent Death ? No. We could consider having here day and night, action and rest, people living and then sleeping. In a single picture, we can see a cycle, the cycle of life, our life, humans sharing in a common society wherever we are, in which our lives are set to the cycle of day and light, like any animal.
Artificial lights ? Whatever !
Our world, the one we are living in (beyond goods and Earth), is artificial anyway. Rules, laws to follow, like those frames that are separating us - being in our world - from the outside. Inner and outer, splitted by strong limits that we've made ourselves, compelled.
Is it what we are ? Is it the world we are living in ? Is that the world we've all chosen ?
Have we stopped living, moving, like those people in their frames, frozen in time, motionless, unable to get out of those limits, incapable of crossing inexistent borders ?
To conclude, let us think about "the light" imprisonned, surrounded by "the dark". Peace might not be where we are looking for it.
(forgive my English, I might have made some mistakes or used some unappropriate words, which I do not wish... )

Don't worry about your English. That was a very poetic and fascinating interpretation! I enjoy your view of light and dark being symbolic of human freedom and restrictions separating individuals from each other. Sorry I took a while to reply, but thank you very much for the vivid and unique narrative your created for my photo!

Strangely, and in a very particular way, some aspects of this photography remind me of Da Vinci's "the last supper" , urbanised maybe....

I see exactly where you're coming from. When I titled it "Tableau" I had in mind a classical or Renaissance painting, just not a particular one. Thanks for your insightful comment!

Love this scene. I can't count the times I've seen this same photo op in Tokyo and never took it because I was in a hurry or something. I really does remind me of Tokyo at night.

Thanks! I've played with this shot countless times, and each time I learned something to improve. This photo was a long time in the making.

I love the geometric shapes I see in this one. The dark really makes it pop!
