Description
I saw some-one else do this and I wanted to make one too! ;o;.....I ended up getting lost in it... I don't know how long I sat here making it but I know I forgot to eat today @____@ *munches sandwich*
I made the image a little bigger than the template was.
So here we go! 36 influential.inspiring things for me! (watch out... this is a LONG one!)
1: Usagi. Of course XD. This is one of my favourite panels ever. You can't see it here, but Usagi's singing to himself and skipping. ...why? because he's happy! duh.
2: Bone, by Jeff Smith. Seriously? if you haven't read this comic you're wasting your life. Before I read Usagi this was my favourite comic of all time, it's been demoted to second... but after 5 years it STILL packs a wallop every time I read it. Read up to the end of book 3 and see if you can resist reading more.
3: Ratchet and Clank. Best video-game series ever. EVER. It's what made me want to be an animator, shaped my style from being just a coloured blob and is what helped me NOT develop an anime-esque style.
4: Sailor Moon. XD;; Shush. I love her. I love her to death! And Naoko Takeuchi's artwork is soooo pretty!
5: Miyazaki. Miyazaki actually has a bigger influence in my life than just liking his movies. the anime series, Heidi, was one of about only 5 cartoons that were dubbed into Afrikaans (my native language) so I grew up watching Miyazaki, not knowing it was a Japanese show. Today, I adore his movies and animation style. Laputa is my favourite film of him.
6: Douglas Adams. Hitch Hiker's Guide to the Galaxy is awesome. I grew up listening to the radio plays and to date his audio book of 'Life the Universe and Everything' is the greatest thing ever as he reads the book himself. Try track it down, it's awesome.
7: The Little Mermaid. If you didn't see this coming you must be dense XD. My favourite movie ever bar none. Everything about this movie gives me chills. Music, colour use, setting, story, era it was made. Everything.
8: Terry Pratchett. I haven't read a Pratchett novel in a few years now, but he really shaped my childhood and how I see and think about things. My favourite Discworld books are Night Watch and The Truth.
9: Tintin. Before I could read english... or rather before I could read... my dad read me Tintin comics. I still loe the boy reporter, his drunkard best friend and little white dog a lot more than I should
10: The ocean. I don't know why. I find the sea both alluring and frightening at the same time. I love the creatures that live there, I love the taste of salt, I love our pristine white beaches and our sea that's warm and tropical on the east-side and cold and brutal down south.
11: Japanese Prints. Since I was about 15 and started taking art as a serious subject at school I was really inspired by Japanese art, especially the landscapes.
12: Soundtracks. I love musical scores, especially for video games and anime as well as American movies. That's almost all I listen to.
13: Animals. I'm such a giant animal lover XDD If I could I'd have a zoo in my house! From reptiles to fish to rodents... I love 'em all
14: Brian Froud. From his work on The Dark Crystal and The Labyrinth to his artwork, I love how Brian Froud showed me, from a very young age, that faeries are not all girly and sparkly and nice... but can actually be evil little bastards when they want to. I love his wilder take on Faeries.
15: Rob Alexander. I found Rob Alexander's work on my brother's Magic Cards and I've been able to track down 2 books by him which are very informative as well as beautiful. I wish I could paint landscapes and atmosphere like he does.
16: Cowboy Bebop. Because it kicks ass. Do yourself a favour and watch it... or at the very least watch the movie which is one of my favourite animated movies out there.
17: My Little Pony. LOLSHUTUP! A very long time ago (before they became freakishly cute looking) My Little Pony was the greatest thing ever! They lived in a fantasy world with magical creatures, lived in a castle and had magical powers. And they were awesome.
....Now they do weird things like go to the mall and rollerblade and have bands and shit. Twilight, Fizzy, Applejack and Firefly are my favourites.
18: Forests. I dunno... maybe because we don't have any here, but I adore forests I loved going on hikes with my lecturer and some friends while I was in Canada. I wish I had the opportunity to do things like that more often.
19: Morrowind. This game is awesome. Oblivion? PFFF! It's Morrowind dumbed down for the masses. This was were it was at! Exploring giant, unique and VAST terrains from swamps to fields to caves to barren wastelands with it's own complex wildlife, natives, religions, political struggles and social structure. I don't even really LIKE open world games.. but this was special.
20: Close Encounters of the Third Kind. You OWE it to yourself to see this movie! seriously. If you haven't I have no idea what you've been doing with your life until now.
21: Watership Down (the movie). I grew up watching this movie... and I think it seriously changed my perspective on some things. Most notably, that rabbits are not cute and cuddly little pink things associated with hearts and candy and roses and shit. Watch this movie! It's excellent. However I warn you, it's very violent.
22: Cryptozoology. The study of creatures which science does not yet recognize as 'existing'. Such as the Colossal Octopus, The continued existence of the thought to be extinct Tasmanian Wolf, The various apemen thought to live throughout the world. I Believe in these things... but I'm extremely skeptical. I'm always looking for a rational explination for events of photos of such things. But that doesn't mean I don't believe.
(incidentally, I was VERY into ghosts when I was younger... but I've actually developed an irrational fear because of my research and so didn't go looking for photos of them because I actually want to sleep tonight.)
23: Ammonites. I love stones, Amethyst is my favourite, but for some reason I feel a strong attachment to fossils. I can't really explain it. I actually have a small ammonite fossil and would love to have more, but they're very expensive.
24: Bright Colours.
25: Coloured lights. I blame Close Encounters for spawning this love. I don't really know why, but I love coloured lights like you see in Interstella 5555 and the opening sequence of Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs.
26: Documentaries. My favourite thing to watch! I specifically like documentaries about ancient civilizations, ancient mysteries and crime (but not too much crime or I get depressed). I'd like to see a little less WWII documentaries though >___> seriously. Get over it guys. There's a lot more to history than WWII! How about watching a documentary about the Fifth lost empire? Ever even heard of it? I thought so.
27: Fantasy Art. I love pictures of far off, fantastic places. Which is why I love dA.
28: Angels. Shush. I like them. I like things with wings in general. However same as with faeries, I don't think they're robe wearing pussies. I'm sure they kick a lot more ass than people want us to think.
29: Kingdom Hearts. A loooong time ago there was a game called 'Kingdom Hearts'. it was unique, magical, colourful and extremely inventive. ...then the second one came and ruined everything, focusing more on the anime bishi melodramatic bullshit and fanservice than actual inventiveness and magic. I hear the third game probably won't even HAVE Disney characters in it. .....fuck you fanbase. I blame you for this. You took what was one of the greatest things I ever experienced and made it into an avergae, run of the mill anime game. Seriously. Go jump off a bridge repeatedly.
(sorry... but it physically hurts to experience so much disappointment all over again and cry at the lost potential)
30: Samurai Jack. I think this is one of not the best American cartoon ever made. And it spawned my love for the 'samurai' genre of movies/anime/comics/cartoons. Plus it has Mako in it.
31: THE 80S!! HELL yeah! XDD The 80s make me so nostalgic and almost sad, but I don't think I'd like to go back to it. We'd lose so much. But it was a good time, and gave birth to many things I hold very dear.
32: Travelling. I've recently discovered I love travelling. I've been doing heavy traveling since I was 10 and went to England the first time. Since then I've been to Scotland, France, Switzerland, Germany, Austria, Australia and Canada. I plan to go to America and Japan next. I love seeing different landscapes, climates and cultures.
33: Friendship. Easiest way to get me to love ANY movie/comic/book/cartoon/anime, throw some deep friendship in there. I'd like to think friendship that runs THAT deeply really does exist, but sometimes I wonder if I'm just fooling myself. I mean I know I have love that runs that deep for certain friends of mine... but I don't know if it goes both ways. At least to that 'I would die for you' level.
34: Mythical creatures. Not to be confused with cryptozoology. I love creatures from myth and legend which aren't thought to seriously exist. Like unicorns, dragons, Lamia, mermaids etc.
35: Animation. XDDD duh. The art of movement, storytelling and expression of characters. It's my burning passion.
36: And Lastly.. and this one's the most abstract.. stories about heroes. I'm not talking about characters that do great deeds, save the day and get the girl at the end. I mean characters who are very clearly and truly, human. They bleed and hurt as easily as any of us, they get sad, they get cold, they get hungry and have all the concerns and limitations of a human being. But despite this they strive for a purpose. Whether it's saving the world, saving the people they care about or fighting for justice. A story about a hero who has a life as fragile as any-one's but puts it all on the line is to me, one of the greatest and most important things in this world. And seeing that person come out victorious at the end.. injured, tired and at the end of their strength but victorious nonetheless makes me feel like I too can draw power from wherever they found it to do the things they do and protect people on the level they have. Stories with this level of impact teach me how to live, and make my life richer.
....and yes.. I had to end with Usagi again XDD

Eclectic and beautiful. I was psyched to see Samuri Jack make an appearance. It was a strange cartoon but I liked it a lot.
The last Usagi made me want to cry, but I understand why you like it so much.
Sorry so short... 2 days to Montrose (writer's conference)
Take care of you

XD Samurai Jack is one if not THE best cartoon ever. Seriously. It's use of silence to enhance an atmosphere is something I've never seen in a kids cartoon before and I wish more people would take note.
XDD; and awww~ I'm sorry~! It's not a particularly happy moment for Usagi I agree, but I felt it best portrayed what I wanted to say after a fruitless search for a picture I could use on google. I do like this panel a lot, but not with the same joy as I do the first one if that makes sense
and no worries XD

Am home from conference... and still going out my mind. LOL I've had 3 features to write this week, and applied for that content producing job, as well as getting ready for ANOTHER camping trip next week, all while trying to get my son back into school (UGH)
Oh and while we were at camp, our dogsitter let the dogs get loose in the house, so I came home to dogcrap from one end of the house to the other. Yay. Y-eah... My daughter's rug is a complete ruin, but I have to wait for my neighbor to come tomorrow to help me take it out. I'm sad about the rug but there's truly no saving it, it's just gross.
Anyway. Otherwise things are good... chaos but in a productive way! LOL
Hope things are good on your end of the wires
Rejoicing in the day,
-Mary

A lot of people forget about being mortal. Especially the heroes and people they look up to. I think the last one was great!

You're welcome I love to read. But forget what I just read easily. Nice icon! It looks a lot like that one of Leo with his swords ready to strike.

=o no tmnt?
anyway, it was great looking at this! I liked looking at all the squares and figuring out what they are and then looking in your notes to see your reasons behind them. It's a great little window into your brain [or something like that xD]
Thanks for sharing,

I thought about including TMNT, but I thought that the TMNT are more an embodiment of things I already love and crave such as friendship, devotion, heroics, being human and personal limitations. However this is not something I get purely from TMNT. It just happens to be a universe that has everything I already love and look for which is why I like it so much However, truth be told I've never been the biggest fan of the art style. Not in the TV shows nor the comic, so its art hasn't really influenced me on that level
TMNT is just a wonderful collection of things I look for in my favourite fandoms, but it's not really a 'source' from which these things have sprung.
I hope all that makes sense XD;;
And thanks for reading the whole darn thing! XDD I'm really glad you enjoyed it! I love looking at my own moodsheet XDDDD because it's everything I love.

Yeah man, I hear you there, most of the art is x_x and its the story behind it that keeps it standing and as good as it is. And hearing your descriptions for why you left it out totally makes sense, and I can see how you have sort of already included all the good things in other little squares on your quilt of inspiration.
Lol, I am very curious though to see what Nickoldean is going to do to them xD Maybe their art style will be AWESOME. Or just be another kids cartoon xD

and I totally should but I'm not that goot at photoshop to put everything on there ;
