Description
I admit, I don't get the question "How do you draw so good?" that often (booI see all these tutorials on dA on how to improve with lineart or colouring or hair and although there are some awesome tutorials about expressions, anatomy, posing etc, I've yet to see something outlining what I consider to be the 3 most important things to consider while drawing.
The fourth is the answer I always give when people ask how they can get better at drawing. I can't really give any more explanation than that.
Anyway. I hope this helps some-one out there. All the photos were taken by me and all doodles and pencil work was done by me.
(My drawings of Usagi in 2009 were HORRIBLE!!)
Also.. I am surprised by how few drawings I have of Usagi smiling in 3/4 that aren't like over a year old DDD'8 WHAT THE HELL??
Anyway... enjoy.

They are not horrible, now you stop that!
I am such a shameless hypocrite, lol, I say the same about my old stuff too. But that doesnβt change the fact that you 09 stuff isnβt bad, so there

XDD well I don't like them at all. They make me cringe. I find ti hilarious how I made an effort to give Usagi smaller eyes at first.. ..and eventually made them bigger anyway.

This should be very helpful when it comes to helping someone learn how to draw better. I think you did a good job on this.

Oh my! This is quite helpful! Especially with the action line, I've never really done something of the sort, but I may just do that now lol.
Practice is correct...though I need to do this more too...Especially with muzzles. Grah.
Very nice ^^

XD you should. I didn't learn about it until college but it's very important
and I agree XD;; practice is always important.
Anyway thanks!

Yeah, that's true. I remember when I was a kid, I just copied text and gave it my own spin.

"style comes last"
Yes! Thank you!
I don't want to hear ANY "It's my styyyyyyle!" whining from ANYONE who has been drawing less than 5 years.
And even then, they'd have to be drawing pretty hardcore during those 5 years and understand that "It's my style!" is NOT an excuse to not understand what you're drawing.

XDD and I don't want to hear the word 'style' from ANY-ONE. As I always say, style is not a conscious effort! if you just sit down and draw without copying some-one else whatever comes out of your pencil is you "style". and if it doesn't come out looking right then maybe you need to focus on your skills a little more without copying some-one else's style.

Haha, I know that macro, it's spot on.
I think style can be a conscious effort, people who deliberately develop it into a certain direction, but they still need to learn the basics first.

This is true I must admit. Like people who are really from American but actually work hard to create a distinct and personal anime style that's not generic.

This is probably the best tutorial I've seen so far But you're right, these are all very important to drawing; especially number two. I learned about that in art class years ago but I'm still trying to draw things with my right side. It can be very difficult to switch from drawing simple symbolism to drawing the actual thing
I actually just started using number 3 in my sketches; I'm surprised how helpful a simple line can be It's also helpful for drawing front-on portraits as well, which I'm normally really bad at ~

XD me too don't worry. Especially when it comes to backgrounds, especially trees and rocks! DAMN ROCKS! why are they so hard? (lol pun)
And I agree! The line of action is super awesome!

I got a tip on drawing rocks from an unlikely source, my cousin who was a Marine Sniper. I have a home video where he's leaning over my shoulder while I was drawing (Gawd it seems like forever ago) and he says, "There are no round edges in nature. Unless your boulder has been in a stream for hundreds of years it should be all rough texture, hard angles and sharp edges. That's why I wear all that crap on my helmet, to conceal the roundness of it. An enemy would pick it out in a heartbeat, he may never know what tipped him off, but that wouldn't matter. People just instinctually notice stuff like that."
Iβm sure you knew this already, I thought Iβd just share one of my favorite memories of art and family.

XDD I think I did but it's something you don't actively think about when you draw right? I'll remember that! That's a good way for the information to stick
