Yeah, gotta get ready for a big fight on a train speeding through the mountains. No one else dies!! I am sure Ruby will take the center spotlight this season, although it seems there will be enough big moments for everyone.

They've been saying at every opportunity that this volume is going to give Ruby the spotlight, so here's hoping. Every volume has a character who's neglected, but they're so used to writing everyone apart that I hope everyone being together makes that easier to avoid.

From my own GM days behind the screen as well as some on-and-off writing projects, it is much easier to plot interactions with the group as a whole as opposed to chasing plot threads tied to running bunnies in different directions. Tolkien himself had trouble coordinating separated members of the Fellowship, why should CRWBY have it easier? Having Team RWBY as a whole unit again can only help, and give the fans the character interaction time they crave as well as the action. It's been a while since Beacon, and none of them are the people from episode 1 any more.
Having said all that, JNPR looks like they will take the back seat this time, since indications are they will not reach the same place with RWBY. Not a bad thing, since Renora is it right now and Jaune has a new Semblance to master. That will prove useful later on, oh yes... Plus some screen time has to be set aside for Team WTCH, its presumably new junior members, and Salem's planned revenge on heroines who dare to mess with her schemes. And there will probably be a scene with Raven and Taiyang discussing daughters and roads not taken. AND some smiling face could be Neo, helping Team WTCH or pursuing her own revenge.

Oh yeah, no judgement from me there. Vol 4 handled all the separate stories beautifully, Yang got the short end of the stick but I still loved her recovery. I'm just hoping, now that everyone's together, there'll be a little more space for the old humor.
What makes you think JNPR wont be there? They showed Nora and Ren in the train fight. Or do you mean focus-wise?

Word has it the train fight separates the two teams, with RWBY still headed to Atlas, while JNPR does...something else TBA. We'll know for sure when we see it with our eyes, of course! The new Grimm types, Sphinx (advanced mob) and Manticore (boss), look like tough customers. I didn't mind the minimal focus on Yang back when, since her two conversations with Taiyang and the teachers were the true pivots in her arc. Much the rest of it was stuff that in a RPG would have been allocated by allocated training time and a couple of skill rolls. Which is OK, since of the four members of RWBY, Yang is the one least inclined to think over a decision; she decided she no longer had the critical hit blues, so back on track, 'nuff said! It paid off in Volume 5 with the "mother and child reunion" segments. (Hat tip to Paul Simon there. ) I rather suspect Yang will be the positive driving force again, since Ruby always runs better on positive vibes, and Blake habitually sees the empty half of the glass. I fully expect Weiss to be 100% more supportive and understanding, but she may have to lean on Ruby some too, since we know the mess she is coming home to.

Ah, I hadn't heard that.
I liked Yang's arc, but every volume there are people who complain that so-and-so didn't get enough screen time. Last volume was Ruby's turn, I imagine this volume will be Blake's given all her screen time the last two volumes. But I'm hoping having the team back together may lessen that.
And, yeah, Yang last volume was perfect. The mother-daughter stuff was better than I'd hoped it would be, I was so happy RT didn't make Raven sympathetic and didn't make Yang pull punches when dealing with her.

Supposedly it was part of the scenes as was shown at NYCC this year, and had to be hush-hush about for a while. But we'll only know for sure when the episode runs. Maybe things changed later, and the present story is different? Every volume there is always at least a few fans who are disappointed their favorite didn't get the attention. But these shows with a big cast are like that sometimes. Doesn't bother me, for all the NaruHina shipping I did in Naruto, and poor Hinata-chan with maybe a dozen lines in a season sometimes. One learns to treasure the moments when they appear. I would have been impatient for CFVY by now, but they have their own book deal now so it's alright.
The writers have a knack for giving the main heroes problems to deal with, but nothing unsurmountable or easily fixed in one sitcom episode's length. That's RWBY for you; come for the flash and fighting, stay for the slow-building young hero development. Even better that even the non-good characters have a valid reason for their actions, even if that reason is only valid to them. Raven didn't want to save the world from Salem, she only wanted to save her tribe, and that was paramount over everything else, including her loving husband and baby girl. Not nice, no, but we can get it, and get why Yang is so disappointed and angry. And from there....we'll see. Not a bad thing to remind the young fans that life's problems can't be fixed with good intentions, good feelings, and a musical number. But they can be fixed with a little time, understanding, and not being a total hard-headed jerk about it. Not much of that in Team WTCH, right?
