Description

A picture done of my character, Ivy.

This is a big piece for me for a few reasons. First, it's the first piece I've done of the redesigned Ivy. Second, it's an experiment piece, trying cell-shading on a large scale. I'm really pleased with it, and might even be doing my artwork in this style from here on out!

Also, this introduces my newest character, the male platinum-morph fox, Tilion! Isn't he just adorable? He was an adoption I won from *TarahElla-Adopts . You'll be seeing a lot more of this cutie around!

As always, tell me what you think!

If you don't mind me asking, what is cell shading?

No problem! It's when you shade using solid blocks of color that are either not blended or barely blended at all. (Versus soft shading, when you blend your shading.) It's the same style of shading used in animation, like Disney movies. But a picture's worth a thousand words, so here's a redline that shows the two different types of shading (only they break soft shading down into realistic and semi-realistic, both of which are subsets of soft shading):

Oh wow! I've used cell shading without even knowing it's name! Back when I used plain MS paint. XD Thanks you for showing me

LOL, I've done that, too. Used a style of art before I knew what it was. Cell shading is much easier in MS Paint. My start with digital art was dolling (making pixel dolls on a base) and I tried my hardest to get the shading as smooth as possible. Not easy when you're laying down each pixel individually, lol.

You're welcome! After all ...

AMAZING! I love how there expressions came out! WONDERFUL!!!

We need to talk about what i owe you (art and statue wise)!!! I have been so very busy lately and i am so sorry! A few things, would you still like a fox statue of Autumn OR would you like it to be another one of your characters? Its still sitting on my desk DX waiting to be fired and painted! I also owe you a chibi drawing! Please let me know what you would like im in a creative mood and i am free until Monday morning to get to your art!

Thanks!

A fox statue of Ivy would be great! They're basically the same character, only a little different markings, so I hope it won't be too difficult!

Thank you so much! This wasn't the easiest piece to do, just because there's so much going on. I swear I had to change their poses like ten times to get them to look right, too. I certainly tried to get some emotion in there, but I'm glad you see them so strongly! Although I'm curious, what do you see in this? I know what I see, but I also know what I was trying to make, so I'm somewhat biased, lol.

Excellent! That's exactly what I was trying to display! That look that dogs get when they're really into playing together, that "hyperhyperHYPER" look, if you know what I mean? Basically, I was trying for that. From the videos I've seen on YouTube, foxes do the same. Some of my favorites: [link] [link] and especially [link] . If that last one isn't an example of a fox getting the crazies, I don't know what is!

Beautiful work. I love the colouring and the difference between the solid shades on the figures and the textures in the bg.

Thank you! The texture was a last-minute addition because I didn't like the way the background was coming out, and throwing a texture on it fixes just about everything. But it really worked with this piece. And thanks for the fav!

Thank you so much! I'm pleased with it myself. And thanks for the favorite! Cel-shading is when you shade using solid blocks of color that are either not blended or barely blended at all. It's the same style of shading used in animation, like Disney movies.
