Description
This request is for I drew her OC "Leeshie" flying around, with a nice scenic background. I tried to do a study on this one by looking up other artists artwork of landscapes, and tried to come up with a color palette from what I saw, and try to implement their style and technique into my work, while still keeping it within my own style and design. I enjoyed working on this one, I feel that things went pretty good in this piece, and I tried to implement a "Painted" look a bit in the trees by using an actual painting technique I learned once... don't remember the name of that technique though! XDI hope you guys like this, especially you
I totally forgot to do this last night, so I figured I'd best do it now. I did use some custom brushes, and the one's I used were made by:

Overall, this is another really good piece. I especially like the attention to the bounce lighting on her stomach (the light bouncing back up from the ground and hitting her). That's a subtle, but very enhancing detail. Also, the flowers and the trees do a very nice job of framing the scene and drawing attention to the mare. The flowers also provide nice contrast and a good splash of different color to offset the predominate blues and greens of the scene.
There are only a couple minor problems I see with this piece. The first, is the very sharp edge where her right foreleg bends. The triangle like point there looks rather unnatural. You can probably fix that with the liquify filter in Photoshop. Not sure if you've ever used that before, but it's an amazing tool.
The second problem is just below that on her right foreleg. She's got a blade of grass growing out of it. (Probably something I'd fix with the clone tool.)
Those are really the only two issues I see. Again, another really good piece!

I use both Paint Tool SAI and Photoshop. Paint Tool SAI for my linework and Phtoshop for the painting.

I'mma be honest. I feel like the pony is really out of place. That background is so gorgeous, it looks painted. and then you have this really sharp lined (and different coloring style) subject that doesn't really pop in a good way. I'm curious how it'd of looked fitting the style of the backgrounds (or at least more similar to it) As well as without the pony.Β
I loveΒ your take on the background though. Also, I think that tree painting technique you used might be dotting

though with much larger dots. The only background thing I wouldn't of done (if I was a decent artist) would be not using the dashes on the grass, except near the path. But it still looks great as is, nothing wrong with it.
I'd of written a critique, but I'm due for an 8 AM class (Ear Training) in 11 hours... and I need sleep. T_T

Thank you, and yeah, I'm not exactly sure how to paint the ponies in my background style, simply because of how they are made. I'm still trying out new techniques though, so hopefully one of these days I'll come up with something that works.
And yeah, that's what that is, I knew it was some kind of technique that was a dot technique, and I guess that's the name of it! ^^

I spent quite a few hours working on this piece. It took me maybe 2 or 3 days to work on I believe... not sure exactly, the last few days have been kinda hectic! XD But yes, I did work hard on this piece, just as I do with all of my works. ^^

Aw, thank you very much, I'm so glad you like how it turned out! ^^ And you don't have to do anything, just letting me be able to draw your OC was enough, I had a lot of fun drawing this! I actually went through many background designs, and in the end this is the one I really liked, and it really went well with my original design that I was going with! ^^ So I'm really glad that you liked how your OC came out!
