October, and the

sky is on the ground again;
    boats on a small sea.

This is a beautiful poem. The writing is very subtle and calm. The first thing that comes to my mind is the sea; from the title. I take it literally. When I read the first word, October, it tasted good. I always feel drawn to nouns beginning a sentence or a verse. I imagine a serene, calm sea after a month of solid monsoon - that is how it is here. July and August are infamous for their monsoon rages.

Beautiful as always.

I'm sorry to reply so late, but I've just sort of been keeping this message here because it's so lovely to read. You always leave such wonderful comments, Mehreen – thank you!

I like this piece! It's cool that you've stuck to the syllable count. I can relate with you in terms of the process. Most of the time, I come up with something, and then I finish it off months later.

I like the phrasing here, and how simplistic it feels, yet there is a sense of intensity with how you've described things.

Great piece!

Thank you! I must admit, although I know the syllable count isn't necessary, I felt weirdly pleased to have stuck to it.

And yes, I'm aware your process is similar, haha.

Thanks again!

Oh yay, a new work! Lovely work - I love the second line in particular, something about the words just struck me.
I see less of a static picture and more of a scene when reading this: A dramatic downward sweep of blue sky with some clouds towards the ground. Leaves floating downward on a breeze, and boats peacefully sitting on the water. I took this whole thing rather literally.
Though if I had to interpret it more abstractely I'd say something about October bringing us back to the groud of reality from the freedom of the summer months? I don't know, I'm bad at interpreting. Though it's very interesting that you titled the work "Pacific" and the wrote about "a small sea"...
What was that particular image you had in mind, if you don't mind sharing?

Thank you so much for the wonderful comment, Rie! I don't think there's anything wrong with taking it too literally, and nothing wrong with your interpretation either – I love reading other people's interpretations. Actually, I think there's a lot of truth in what you say about October as well (I do miss the sunshine during the autumn/winter months – things just feel a bit less fun, then, I think, and more... serious? I don't know. ).

By 'small sea' I was thinking of puddles (with leaves as 'boats' on the 'ocean').

For me, I get the image of a cloudless sky blending with pristine ocean waters, but I think I'm interpreting it too literally.
