Those are some pretty bitchin' T-1000 arms she's sporting there.
Speaking of which, modular arms would be pretty cool. If you weren't in the mood to have normal arms that day, you could have stabby arms instead! Or laser arms. Or wings! Maybe I'm getting ahead of myself here.

I like how you realistically portrayed that there would be some "growing pains" and physical therapy, etc. You'd be amazed at how many people seem to think you can just easily recover from surgery, etc. and especially if you now have something metal or electronic attracted to you.
Especially with cochlear implants and stuff like that. you know all those heartwarming videos of little kids hearing for the first time? they give the impression that it was videotaped just shortly after getting their CI surgery. but, if they just recently had their surgery then parts of their head would be shaved off, but... yet all their hair is grown in. So they certainly don't like to show the reality where the kids cries in pain for a long while after the surgery as they try to get used to feeling this new thing inside their head, etc. It's a pain in the ass waiting for your head to heal after an surgery like that... not to mention the speech/audio therapy during the whole process, AND you still have to keep up the therapy after you get your CI turned on.
But thanks to videos like that, people just think you get a CI, and poof you're magically cured of deafness. I'm sure there's other similar videos out there with protestic limbs, etc. I notice a lot of stories are bad about that too.

Thanks you. The recovery process from any injury, physical or psychological, is so deeply important to a person's development. Who you are before and after is always different. To just skip something like that like it was a a day at the office shows that the author doesn't understand the human psyche very well.

I like how your showing what she has gone through in the past 6 months, without spending to much time on one thing, you've got a really good pace going!
I also agree with the other comments about how your NOT making it seem like serious medical injury's are easy to deal with...it makes it so awesome! and much more relatable for people who have really gone through tragedy's like this.

The chip in the brain makes sense since we're talking about a cyborg needing to make a connection with mechanical arms here. I never realized that.
And I can only agree with what others said. This comic is one of the few that feel real. It is a goddamn struggle Corelle is going through. You don't just cut the unpleasant parts, you go right through them. It makes you understand why people in hospitals are often gloomy. It makes you realize that true strength is full of pain. It's rarely fun. But it's necessary.
For example, Corelle's face in the first panel says more than thousand words already.

Apparently we have been using the chip in the brain technique for a couple years, though it's on the back of the skull rather than on the side. I had it on the side here because I wanted to show her expression in the mirror.

A big part of SE is showing that medical stuff is crazy complicated. Movies and tv have led us to believe that any injury is just a minor irritation, but that is certainly not true. The strength of the human spirit at odds with fragility of the mind and body in central to this comic's themes.
