Description
1: Brad Bird's The SpiritOf all the people in the world who could make Will Eisner's seminal work come to life then it's Brad Bird. This could have to like Batman the Animated Series on a bigger budget but the studio's aren't willing to take a chance on a film like this in a time when animation was going down the toilet. If this film was made, there would be no chance it would be cusefule but they would be chance it would be revalutianery for when it was relised and would have set the animation world on it's head.
2: David Cronenberg's Frankenstein
This is a match made in horror movie heaven, if this wouldn't have been the greatest adaptation of Mary Shelley's book then I don't know what would of been. Not much is know about this project other than a magazine ad but ether way this would have been amazing, especially if it was faithful adaptation to the original source. Ether way, I think I would rather have this than Kenneth Brahnats terrabul film adaptaion.
3: Stanly Kubrick's Napoleon
This is one of the most famous movies never made, most of you will probably be expecting Jodorowsky's Dune to be on here but with how much it would have taken to make that movie there's no way that it could have come out the way Jodorowsky would have wanted it. Napoleon on the other hand was something Kubrick had been planning for even longerand would have given Waterloo a run for it's money. But the high bugget and the falier of Waterloo killed any chance of this film being made.
4: Disney's Kingdom of the Sun
Now look, I love The Emperor’s New Groove, that trappable scene is one of the funnies moments in all of cinema. But to be honest, I like the sound of Kingdom of the Sun way better. I did think about putting Hiawatha on this list or A Few Good Ghost, but if I only had to go with one cancelled Disney film it would have to be this one. From the art style to the songs, I this this would have been something real special, if those test audiences where a bit more open and people just opened up a bit more, then we could have gotten one of the very best Disney movies ever.
5: Terry Gilliam's The Divetive Detective
The idea for this one sounds promising and hay, it Terry Gilliam, so it has to be good. I idea of the noir detective story mixed with a fairy tales art style like Dark Crystal or Legend is a fascinating idea. The reasons for why this didn't happen are unclear but the most plain reason is that the studio just didn't understand it and Gilliam decided to abandon it in favour of The Man Who Killed Don Quixote. I think the film as it was as a bit too ambitious, but I do think it could of work on a different level Gilliam wanted it to, as for the casting I think my favourite choice was Nicholas Cage.
6: Guillermo del Toro's Monte Cristo (a.k.a: The Left Hand of Darkness)
Some people may go for At the Mountains of Madness but personally, I think this gothic steampunk western reimagining of The Count of Monte Cristo set is and alternate version of the Mexican Revolution is more interesting, not just because the setting but also because of how personal to Guillermo del Toro as he wrote it in order to reflect his feeling about his father being kidnapped. And from the sound of it, this reimagining is of the Alexandre Dumas story is really interesting and put it in to a whole new perspective that could have been revolutionary in how it explores award perception of good an evil like a more exotic version of Joker. I would have rather this be made that the mediocre and rather boring Crimson Peak.
7: Peter Jackson's Origenel King Kong Project
For those who thought the 2005 movie was too damn slow then you'll be happy to know that Peter Jackson was planning to make more titre and action packed version back in the 90's. This would have been similar in town to the Brendan Fraser Mummy movies but the planed reased of the 1998 Godzilla and Mighty Joe Young movie killed any chance of this being made, so that's more reason to hate Roland Emmerich. To me, this "would" be like Brendan Fraser's The Mummy with some Raiders of the Lost Ark throw in for good measure and that is something I would give all my money to see.
8: Ray Harryhausen's War of the Worlds
Ray Harryhausen would go on to make First Men in the Moon but if he had made War of the Worlds in "much" the same way then it could have becume a science fiction classic. Wether it would have been set in the same time peried as the book (which I really wish it was) or in the time it was made, this would have been one of Ray Harryhausen's biggest technical achievements.
