are the shuttle doors up front or are they escape pods, second why put them up front ????

They can act as shuttle bay doors...But their primary purpose is to take buoys in through the forward section, and then presumably out an aft set of doors.

Quite possibly one of the most rarest of ships to see in a Spacedock.
This is one of my personal favorites from the Jackill's Star Fleet Reference Manual: Ships of the Fleet Volume III.
Wonder how an Enerprise era, TOS era and an Excelsior era versions would look.

It's a TMP design. But a lot of TMP era ships got their ideas from the TOS era.
