It may be difficult for some people to appreciate how difficult this spot is to photograph. I have spent hours up to my knees, out in the canoe, down on my belly and looking down from the screes trying to capture the aura of this place which is always awe inspiring but constantly changing. The screes seem to always be in shadow and this makes it difficult to balance the shot and when everything comes together someone will park their camper van in the way!
My point is I like it! On many levels. The cool blues definitely reflect the mood of the lake at this time of year. The foreground puts us in touch with the ruggedness of the surroundings and make a nice start point for the lead-in line along the edge of the lake through to Gt, Gable.
It is difficult to use ND Grads here because the screes are so dark but the only improvement(?) I would want to make would be the areas of blown highlight in the sky between the mountains.
The vivid colour of the grass and dead ferns are spot on and anyone familiar with the Lake District will recognise these as some of the only colour that remains until Spring returns. A great shot imho - Thanks or sharing it e.deviantart.net/emoticons/s/s… " width="15" height="15" alt="" data-embed-type="emoticon" data-embed-id="391" title=" (Smile)"/>

you are a very good landscape photographer from what I've seen so far  --- but this is too blue ( over saturated )  for me - over-saturation grabs a lot of people's attention  -- because of it's impact - but to me it doesn't look natural - and it would wear on me negatively with repeated viewings. I know there are some photographers that started using ( I think ) Tiffen colored polorizing filters back near the end of film -- and it seems to me - they felt like one had to make every color in the composition 'snap' -- and as an extension there are photographers - and an audience for this kind of thing ---but -- as they say - it just ain't natural !  ( if naturalness is what you are after ) ----- to me - that kind of photo is like looking at a Christmas tree .
Anyway - that isn't exactly what is happening here --but , for my two cents - I'd just say tone it down a bit .....cheers , and thanks for letting my put my two ( unofficial ) cents in .

Douglas thank you so much for your thoughtful and very constructive observations. Your point on the blue is noted, and agree to some extent, its a matter of taste I know. there was no colour filter used , I don`t own one, however I was experimenting with a new Lee NG graduated filter. The time is deceptive on exif information as was taken an hour earlier so not proper daylight as such. However I would be interested to hear from you how you would rid the blue caste to the shot.

I appreciate the thought and time taken to comment, and its only through comments such as yours that my photography will develop in a positive direction, so thank you again.

Just tossing in some feedback from how I see things in the main
when it comes to landscape photos . All rules or preferences can be broken , nothing carved in stone
I don't personally have the opportunity ( currently ) to do much landscape photography - so I'm kind of rusty in this area.
But I would assume many ( most ) people use a certain amount of post - processing .
And there are such a wide myriad of things that can be done to alter the look that came out of the camera .
In Photoshop one could just select 'Adjust Hue/Saturation --- select Blue from the drop down chart and lower
the blue a bit . This solution might be too primitive  for people who do all kinds of sophisticated adjustments
in Lightroom , Photoshop etc.
I do realize - that sometimes the blue - or any other color might just happen to match how the
original scene looked . But in general I just prefer a landscape to look what I see as 'natural'
Given that what you see when looking at a landscape - and a photograph of it -- are two entirely different things
---(  we can only approximate the impression we get looking from behind the camera . After all - our eyes cannot
see the whole landscape - but rather subconsciously dart about the panorama before us  - only focusing on one
small area at a time ( it would be interesting to see a chart of how our eyes behave when we do this - might be a zig -zag line
running all over the picture plane in a matter of seconds . But I digress . ............I would have to say - we are all influenced
by our past perceptions --- and I would say I relate more to a kind of 'film ' look -- and am naturally drawn to s more subdued
color palette .
Another factor might be to use a UV filter which cuts down on the blue haze
photo.net/equipment/filters/ ) - however - I know these were used for film cameras - I think most people with DSLR's  just
make adjustments in post - processing.
~ Just sharing some thoughts Simon -- happy shooting !

Thank you Donna, there are caravan sites at St Bees, Ravenglass, Gosforth. If you want the real deal camping there national trust campsite by the lake itself. Also a youth hostel by it as well in old mansion house.
