Description
So this was just for fun, a big red trash can with 3 million years on the clock. The main elements are all their, the scoop, the asteroid... although I wanted there to be less ambiguity with the asteroid than on the original and remastered filming models, on my version it was not an accidental impact it is being mined. The underbelly of the ship forms the mining facility with cranes, a drill, a refinery and a shoot for waste rock.
I also wanted a look that implied age, lot of repairs, mods and additions over the course of its life, the ship was after all the oldest and largest the JMC had in service at the time of the accident. In my mind it would probably represent to big an investment to simply destroy and too expensive to dismantle so they just keep it running as best they can.
I also wanted to reflect the way that, in the series, the ship seemed to have other uses to the JMC, scientific research, hence my model has plenty of antennae, cargo transport to the coloniesin the outer solar system, so I added some hatch like structures but the main focus is the mine.
As I say, just for fun.

I used a Star Wars toy as a base, the escape pod used by the droids in A New Hope then glued on bits and pieces from my bits box, some were chosen to directly replicate elements of the original models, the domes from the season 1-4 model, the dish on top from Back to Earth, other elements were selected not quite at random. The asteroid is made of polymer clay and mounted in the escape pod hatch.
