Description Preview of my remake of the old game Astro Marine Corps for the Spanish Games Remakes contest at [link] .

The enemy on the right is actually recolored and modified version of the original player sprite I did when I first attempted this remake (his running cycle in his original colors is elsewhere in my gallery). I felt it lacked that 'hero' vibe and was a bit short and stumpy. The face mask also made him a bit characterless... which is all perfect for hordes of enemy 'grunts'. I had done all these tiles back then too but I felt they still looked good enough to use. Looks better when it's all moving and parallax scrolling and all that.

The blonde player is meant to represent the guy from the original AMC in a new suit. Either character is selectable in 1 player mode, and of course both get used in 2 player.

Contest deadline is July 31st. Got lots to do.

Beautiful shades. I love the use of cold colours for shadows.

Nah, was based on an old game called AMC which was nice on the Spec/MSX/Amstrad but a bit crap on everything else.

Really nice, glad I ran into your gallery, really dig your stuff on pixelation;

especially like the character sprites and the dark/light transition on the grass.

The palette/shading on this is perfect for this sort of game style, and I like what you've done with the heroes. Good luck with the contest!

Looking good. Altho the platforms seem abit empty.
Smart idea using the old sprite as an enemy

Thanks.

The original game didn't have a lot of platforms using the grassy tiles. The more complex level layouts came later on though still fairly simplistic. Mine will be having several more levels with a bit more complexity but overall it's still more a shooter than a platformer.

well i was more talking about that the ground is all flat, with no bushes or anything to break it up and make it more interesting.

take contra for the snes for example. that has rubble and cracks in the ground here and there. wich looks great.

Um well this is an early preview. I ain't had much chance to do anything else cept try to get the more important bits done like checking parallax is working, get the main sprites in there and shooting stuff. Extra scenery comes very late in the process. I mean darnit, I done a big ol' tree there already I shouldn't have spent time on... tsk..

Hey, this looks really solid.
I haven't actually seen the original but this looks hard-core retro. Great color-scheme and superb style.

I check the original and this totally adds a lot of character to the game.

Good job ^^

Thanks. Which version of the original did ya see? This ones based mostly on the Amstrad CPC version (and to a lesser extent the Spectrum and MSX). It has pretty much nothing to do with the rather bland 16 bit versions or the cruddy C64 version.
