Franklin ordered ships of our Continental Navy to let him alone--his work benefited knowledge.Β I think he'd quite like this portrait, I loved Alan Villiers's book about him. He trained William Bligh, whose navigational skills deserve to be as legendary as his people skills.

Brilliant work. Having the ship et all pale while he's rendered boldly really makes him pop. Love the confidant pose.
