Description
I got asked how I fairly/ randomly determine the color of my foals and I just thought it would be easier to do a tut on it rather than try to explain it in a note! Here you go guys!Note, theses are ~Cinhorse 's horses and the Akillian breed belongs to *SilmesDragonStable

Cool! That's a neat way of doing it!
The way I do it is to look at the genetics, and take one allele of each pairing from each parent. Like, if the dam was Aa and the sire was Aa, I'd roll a number for the mom, and if it was odd, I'd take the first allele, and if it was even I'd take the second allele. Then I'd do the same thing for the dad, and voila! You'd end up with two alleles, and if you don't know genetics that well, you can use [link]
haha, just thought I'd explain! Your way's probably less complicated!

Anyway to determine a foal's genetics that gets the correct genes in the end is a good way! As long as it works for you!

Haha, well me to when it comes to my personally bred horses. But for breeds such as the Akillian warmblood where certain colors are more common than others I use this.

Oo I'm gonna go try this! Tho, I wonder how you do it for fantasy breeds or horses you don't know their genetics, only their phenotype?

Just assign the phenotype a number and do the same process from there I guess? I don't breed fantasy breeds so I don't know how they work... O.o

o man i'm so bad... so I put in the two horses and it turns out the foal I drew earlier has such a low percentage chance xD I think yeah, next time before I draw foal I will run this calculator.

Well, I guess as long as it is on the list it is possible! lol

Yeh, there were sooo many tho, you are lucky to have only had 9! xD Mebbe if I mess with the genetics part, after phenotype, it'll give me less possibilities

That's the beauty of genetics, there usually aren't that many options! lol
I guess that's good and bad though...

Really? I have never seen anything like this before! because the people I talked to just chose their favorite color off the list but I was like no, no that's not how you do it! lol

Mockingbirdblues In reply to CasablancaStudios [2011-01-19 01:04:04 +0000 UTC]
Lol yeah no the way I learned it though was that instead of assigning everything a number you roll the random number thingy and you go down the list until the percentages add up to the number you got, then you do it again for the genotype
