He was in Croockedstar's Promise. He said he didn't love Snowden and Whitekit, and that Whitekit was weak just like Snowfur. He was also trying to teach Crookedjaw the "killing" move. He well deserved it.

Squirrelflight did love Ashfur, but there was a bond between she and Bramblestar that she couldn't resist. Ashfur loved her, but when she chose Bramblestar over him, he went mad slowly.

Training a kit is no different than making a kit an apprentice before six moons. He trained his son with advance battle moves. Just because he didn't kill physically doesn't mean he didn't cause any deaths. If he hadn't encourage Scourge being mauled, Tigerstar, Whitestorm, Darkstripe, Bone, Scourge, Deadfoot and plenty more would still be alive. Also, Bluestar was insane, and she recovered from her insanity before she died.
