Time to show my big halter champion again <3 Wanted to try something new with the shading. It feels a bit more comic like now. But I do like it! It was stressful and relaxing to work on it. Especially with the deadlines from school in between. But I couldn't stay away from entering this special memorial competition again.
     ║ Story ║

Lumos was happy to finally be back at a place that he felt familiar with. Last years competition was full of life and celebration and this year felt even bigger! There were even a few horses Lumos knew. He was put in the same stable as last year and the days flew by. There was laughter, training and riding around the premises.
The day of the competition had arrived and Lumos felt the air change. There was a tight air of excitement and nerves hanging around. Lumos knew exactly what was happening and his own excitement started to grow. He was very happy about his routine this year and felt like it was the perfect way to honour the Wilma. Caithlyn came in very early, wanting to braid Lumos his tail in a beautiful and complicated braid. His meters of tail only made it extremely time consuming.
“Good morning, Lumos!” Caithlyn said cheerfully. “You can already feel it right. Competition day!” She did a little wiggle and gave Lumos some food to eat from. Lumos was happily eating and saw that Caithlyn came in his stable with a big bucket filled with brushed, elastics and a second bucket with soap. She also put a chair down. “You will love this Lumos. The shampoo smells like apples and should make your tail feel even more soft then it already it”. She dipped as much of the tail in the bucket as she could and washed out the dirt that got stuck in it. The part that didn’t fit got a special hand treatment. The cleaning alone already took over 30 minutes to complete. Caithlyn swept the sweat from her forehead and put the bucket with soap outside of the stable. “My god, you really have to much tail. Maybe we should cut some off once we’re home.” Lumos looked at Caithlyn in surprise which soon turned in to anger. He put his ears in his neck and turned his butt as far from Caithlyn as he could. “Lumos…” Caithlyn put on a stern voice and slowly tried to get past Lumos his defensive stand. He just turned away from her every move she made. After 10 minutes of this Caithlyn gave up. “Okey, no hair will be gone. Now let me braid you”. Lumos happily put his head in the air and turned to face Caithlyn again. She grabbed his tail and brushed it oud. The special soap had made this step easy and it was done within seconds! Now the hard part came; the braiding. She took a deep breath and grabbed his tail. The braiding took over 1 hour and Caithlyn her arms were exhausted when she was done. She looked at the tail and knew her hard labour payed off. Lumos his tail had never looked as beautiful as it had now. The braids were beautifully spread over his tail and made him look like a horse version of Rapunzel. She gave Lumos a big hug. “Boy, you are so beautiful! I’m so happy with you.” Lumos layed his head over her shoulder hugging Caithlyn back. “I’ll come and pick you up in an hour or so. I also need to get beautiful for today”. Caithlyn folded the tail up to make sure the straw on the ground wouldn’t get stuck in the braids. “I’ll see you in a little while!”. She closed the stable and went back to her room to get in to her own outfit.

The day calmly went by as Caithlyn and Lumos walked to the inside arena. They walked quickly and Lumos even trotted, since they didn’t want the rain to ruin their outfit and tail. Luckily there was enough space inside to wait for their turn to perform. The first performance was adorable. The horse got a little shy while showing and needed a cuddle from his trainer. Caithlyn was looking at aww while Lumos was looking around the rest of the arena. He remembered himself sneezing throughout his performance last year due to the bell flowers in the pots. He inspected every leaf very carefully and therefore missed the 2 horses that participated and showed before Lumos had to perform. He was still looking around when Caithlyn took his halter and walked forward. He snapped out of his inspection and looked at Caithlyn. “It’s our turn. Come on”. She smiled and walked forward in the ring.

The walls of the ring were a beautiful wood covered with purple flowers and white drapes. If you looked closely you could see that almost every flower had a ribbon attached to them; A purple, pink and green ribbon, representing a fight against cancer. Lumos himself was also wearing one of these ribbons on his halter and in his tail. Caithlyn was wearing a simple outfit containing a professional rider top, white gloves, white jeans, black boots and her hair in a braid. She didn’t want herself to be in a dress with the rain pouring outside.
The pair looked at each other and bowed down towards the judges. They waited for the music to start. The first note echoed through the arena, filing it with a gentle atmosphere. Caithlyn posed down. Lumos stood behind her striking a pose before trotting away, his tail sweeping softly behind him. Caithlyn made some practised hand gestures and asked Lumos to circle around her. After the first part of the song ended, Caithlyn and Lumos started to run around the arena showing off Lumos his gait. Especially the gait that was unique for Zlesdins. The flowers followed them in the wind and it didn’t take long before the whole arena smelled like flowers. The end notes were starting to get closer. The pair left the arena ring and walked back to the middle of the arena. Just before the last note hit Lumos put his front legs up in the air showing his control, while Caithlyn was standing in her end position. An applause sounded through the arena while Caithlyn and Lumos bowed down to the judged once more. They were delighted with their performance. It felt like making magic. She gave Lumos a big head over his head and left the arena to stand against the side of the ring. She was still curious what the rest of the contestants would bring to the table. She put her hand in her pocket to take out a little surprise for Lumos; pieces of carrot. He threw his ears forward, excited to see his favourite treat. He did wait patiently until Caithlyn offered the pieces to him. He gobbled them up in a second and was on cloud nine. His performance felt amazing, his tail looked fabulous and he got his favourite treat to finish the competition with. He was wondering what the rest of the day would bring. But first he watched as a new contestant entered the ring.
