Description This is the first page of my guide to Circular Gallifreyan, or at least the language/code I invented based on the way that Circular Gallifreyan looks in the TV show Doctor Who. While I do not own any rights to the show, and this is purely for fun as a fan, I really would not appreciate someone claiming my writing and its structure and claiming it as their own. Feel free to use it, by all means, but please give me proper credit.
Here is an index of the guide so far:

P.1: Basic Structure and Intro. to Sounds
P.2: Consonants
P.3: Vowels
P.4: Links and Sound Ordering
P.5: Additional Sound Notation

There is more coming soon, as I am only about half-way done with the guide, but I just wanted to upload the first half. With this much, you should be able to get a grasp on how to properly form words. The next sections are going to explain sentence structure, verbs, and more. I'm also going to have one page that acts as a cipher which will be a condensed version all of this to help you remember it better.

NOTE: That little up-side-down semicircle you all see next to the syllables is a directional notation. Because the language's structure means that a word could mean something completely different if read sideways or up-side-down, that little symbol should always be facing that way to tell you which way to read it. I will be adding that to the text properly later on.

Anyway, I hope you all enjoy it, and if you have any questions at all, feel free to comment on any of the pages or send me a private note. Thank you for reading! Allons-y!

i wish the show would adopted a set of rules like this(or exactly like this cus it's so well thought out) so fans can stop the arguing...... and also it would just be plain old cool to wright in gallifreyan XD

You are too kind! I'm also going to post soon a different way of using this same system to make it look even more like the show. Get excited. Start a petition to show the producers make this the official one, maybe?

In the show, there are singular ideas which are expressed with multiple circles decending inside one another, however some as thicker lines than others. They also sit inside an octogon. This can be best interpreted as seen by the new tardis above the console in the middle of the room, with what I can only assume are names of places and possibly the other doctors.

Do you have a page which translates these? Or begins to try and understand how to write these?

cbettenbender In reply to realmattman [2012-12-27 14:17:49 +0000 UTC]

Because this language isn't canon and I made it up on my own, there really isn't a way I can translate the words found in the show. I don't believe they have any sort of structure. Sorry!

realmattman In reply to cbettenbender [2012-12-31 01:30:26 +0000 UTC]

Sure, likely they don't. I suppose they're probably nouns, something that only a Timelord might know?

cbettenbender In reply to realmattman [2012-12-31 06:34:18 +0000 UTC]

That's what the show's creators want you to assume, I'm sure. :3

I have a journal I've been writing for my son. He's only 13 months, but I've been writing it with all sorts of information which he might want some day. Maths and Sciences which I've been working with, philosophy and stories ... but I've also been transcribing your pages into the journal as well so he can one day read and write in Circular Gallifreyan.

To be honest, I read this and couldn't help but happy cry a bit. I don't know why, but it sort of struck a chord. This is so amazingly beautiful, and I am indescribably honored that you would include my language in something that means so much to you and your family. Thank you for telling me this. You've really made me happy. If you need anything, have any questions, or want me to write anything out for you, anything at all, please don't hesitate to ask.

I really love this.

I'm very glad I could make you happy. I've always written stories about fathers and sons, and it wasn't until I became a father that I realized how powerful the story can be written when by the father and not the son.

my son is my favorite person in the world! And as he gets older I'll get him into all sorts of geek things, and I feel like he'll take after me more than anyone else. So there'll be this special way of writing, a special way of communicating, between us.

So, thank you for giving me an opportunity to share something with my son.

They have a structure, I remember I believe Doctor Who Confidential, when the show first launched. They said the Circular Gallifreyan was based on the insides of Victorian fob watches, which then they based an entire structure mimicking the looks of it. However in their version, each circle is a sentence, so I have no idea how they work that out. On the Doctor's cot, it was written individually, similar to the way you made it.

Mine is more expanded like the cot writing, whereas Loren Sherman's is a lot closer to the canon version.

mariomanultimate In reply to cbettenbender [2012-12-31 10:32:05 +0000 UTC]

I see. Sherman's was very well thought out, but I just felt a bitiffy about it. This one has its own method, which I like a lot.
