A Poem for Discord: What Have I Done?
What have I done?
I was mistreated by the kindest of souls
Yet she was there to make me feel special
Others mocked me for my appearances
Yet she called me beautiful and mystical
They said I couldn't fit in no matter how hard I tried
Yet she welcomed me with open hooves
They blamed me for natural disaters and chaotic events
Yet she explained to me no matter what storm appears, the sun will shine again
Others said I could feel no love
Yet she told me what love was
They said no one could love me
...
I though she loved me
...
She turned me into stone
...
I was mad, I was full of hatred
Everything I did was to please her!
She taught me about myself and about others and about love!
So when I asked her to be mine
And she said no
I did exactly what she DIDN'T want
I turned her world upside down for destroying mine...
She was my world, my reality, my sunshine
Now I sit in a room full of darkness as others mock me
While I was encased in stone, they continued to taunt me for my appearence
For my powers
For my past

But, on the other hoof, that may have been what he was afraid of. Losing his companionship with the others and possibly even Fluttershy herself. Perhaps he was only comfortable with testing whether or not Twilight's friendship was true-blue (see what I did there?) and hid the fact that he sought after validation from the others. But all that waiting and hoping andΒ keeping to himself led to a strained relationship and weak bond based on fear and uncertainty rather than love and tolerance. And it's because of this fear, uncertainty, and past experience of loneliness that it was easy to betray them and join Teirek. Nay, it wasn't betrayal, because he only believed that Fluttershy had truly accepted him, and that was the only reason he was considering it, otherwise he would've said yes in a heartbeat.
this isn't his fault entirely because he was quick to double cross them, but he might've stuck with them if the others were a bit more reassuring, thus granting his desire of validation and strengthening his loyalty. And his goofball disposition? That could easily have been another persona that he brings out whenever the others are there, as a mask or shell that he hides in, and he can only open up to Fluttershy. But, because she's so quiet, she didn't tell any of the others about his true form.
then again, all this could be just me taking the show wayΒ too seriously.

I wouldn't say that his need to spread chaos is something he would like to share, since it would mean for him turning back to stone, before they gave away elements ofc (#toomanywoulds ! there is probably a grammar mistake there....) So he was kinda forced to be their "friend", this is not right..:/ So especially at the very begginnig, he had actually no friends to loose.
And yeah Discord wears a lot of masks...
A little bit off topic, I really don't get why he didn't hide for example, escape girls and elements turn into pony and spread chaos with little doses, or in big and change location. He had a poasibility to do that.

Plus, it might not have been a NEED to spread chaos, but more like a... Distraction. You know how some people say that they need to drown their sorrows in whiskey? Well, it might've been more like that. And that would make Fluttershy's house kind of like rehab. I'm probably reading too much into it, though.

No, I fully agree. A distraction not to show how sad/miserable he actually is. That would actually explain why his chaos needs were..hmm well smaller. A only question is why he is so "broken". I wish show gave us Discord origin story...as now we can only imagine

Well I actually believe that Discord was Starswil the Bearded x3 Just none besides him knows that, that's why they still praise him as a great unicorn. Story similar to Bear Brother (have u watched it?) where Denahi not realise that he is chasing his own brother. I also ship Dislestia you know X3

Well, I think Celestia killed the draconequi, and Discord is the only documented survivor.
The only differences between her story and Judge Claude Frollo are:
Number one, she doesn't die.
Number two, she didn't raise Discord.

well, yeah, but maybe the elements act like a magnet to him, and there was no escaping.
Also, there are at least two of them that can forgive him of his mistakes, and one of them, to me at least, seems like his honorary mother. Heck, he MINDS her like a kid would his mother. But still, your mane point is that he wasn't willing to be friends with them, right? Well, if I didn't have any friends, like, ever, or understand how it works, but knew that it was a good thing, I'd want in the first chance I got.
