Description
Here's my updated UNSC fleet chart. As you can see it was impossible to get all the names in there so I decided to add another chart with the smaller ships and their names which is also here on my deviantart account.Planned ships for next and final update: The Pelican, an ONI prowler, the Point of no Return, the Taurus class Frigate and the Cradle refit station.
!!The Keye of Life is an original design of Velo from HHF. Full credit goes to him for designing it.!!

Hahaha. Thanks. Why does the engineer in you hate them though? It's mostly straight lines. A helluva an easier construction then the Covenant's with all their organic forms.

How do they radiate heat? That's a huge problem in space. Being a cylinder makes it far less efficient at radiating heat because of the lower surface area. That's assuming they use the hull of their ship. But other than that, the armor on those things is rather ridiculous and more than a little useless. The Covenant basically oneshot the Unsc ships when they have a couple meters of armor. Take that armor off and they could not only accelerate faster, but they would use less energy to do it and charge their MACs faster. Honestly, be best designed ships I've ever seen are star destoyers from starwars. Large surface area, not much area to hit them front on and they only have to move a little to get out of the way of enemy fire. UNSC ships have to move quite a bit more to get out of the way. Plus the flat(ish) fronts on the UNSC ships meant that if they're hit, they take the full force of the attack rather than getting a glancing blow or having it spread out over a larger area. Of the UNSC had just made MACs with reactors and engines attached to them instead of making full battle ships, the could have put out at least twice as many ships with the same combat capabilities as the old ships, but needing less resources and less crew.
I assume the covenant choose their ships shapes for asthetics, but they still are better designed. They have much less frontal area to hit with a MAC round and they're much smaller with thinner armor (Benifits of shielding) so they can move faster and make more of them.

The UNSC's armour was based on what they had before the Aliens attacked them. The fact that they take the full force of an attack does not count for much when you consider that the Covenant's weapons are heat-based. And the armour needs to be able to take a few hits, otherwise one shot would just melt the whole ship. And the UNSC ships find it very difficult to avoid a shot due to the covenant's weapons having a guided effect, where gunners can direct the plasma straight to the enemy ship. The only ships to come equipped with energy shields were the Strident Class frigates, which only came in late-war. The UNSC was also fighting with the terrorists who had their own ships, so full warships were a must. And there were a few ships that could hold their own, the Haycelon class cruisers. One of these things survived 5 shots from a Covenant Carrier and managed to destroy it.

They could have easily countered the plasma weapons by shooting the plasma torpedoes with large frozen chunks of ice.
Also completely missed the point of my post. Β In fact, the points you raised, while I was unaware of them, actually back up what I said.
Not to mention the fact that their armor would have been almost completely useless to their own weapons. Β Kinetic weapons are very effective at going through armor with a set amount of energy. Β Eg; the amount of energy needed to melt ice and boil it into steam would be enough to accelerate it to mach 2+. Β If anything, heat based weapons would be more easily defended against. Β The ablative properties of ice would have been sufficient against most covenant weapons.
Additionally, there has been at least one case of a guided covenant torpedo being dodged by its target. Β since the Β armor is so damn thick they could have made the ships lighter, and therefore able to accelerate faster, so they could do so with more reliability. Β

I can see your point. I believe the UNSC went with armor because of the Tried and True method. Even the Infinity, arguably the best Human ship created, had 5 Meter thick amour on top of energy shields. Though, the most heavily armored ships were the carriers, they had up to 10 meter thick armor. Also, Covenant ships were generally MUCH faster than UNSC counter parts, so I don't think a lighter ship would survive longer than an armored one. Also, the Armour is made from Titanium, so it's probably not as heavy as one would think. The UNSC did put tungsten plating over the Titanium, which probably increased the melting point.
Though, we all know the REAL reason the UNSC puts armor on their spaceships. No player wants to see a warship without armor, it's just not natural.
Again, I can see the points you raise, and they are reasonable.

I know. But this is just an image, as long as the models themselves aren't stolen (which is impossible as I haven't released them yet) I'm okay with it. I just hope that people give me credit for the models, but there's little I can do if they don't.

Awesome, Apart from the smaller ships down at the bottom. There was no Frigate (I cant remember the designation In amber etc.) Also I swear the forth smallest ship is from Empire at war :L

Thanks ^^ And there is a frigate. Its designation is In Amber Clad, but its class was Apoc; so its an Apoc class Frigate called In Amber Clad. And the Apoc is definatly on there. And yes, I recreated that and used it for a prowler, but it has since been replaced.

Yes, the only ships we were shown are the Spirit of Fire (Phoenix class colony ship refit), Marathon, Halcyon, MAC platform, Apoc, Longsword, Pelican and the Destroyer. The rest are my own concepts minus the Keye of Life, that design comes from Velo.

when i say "explore", i mean the ENTIRE ship: not just the few hallways they allow you to walk though: like the blastdoors in the beginning or the other cryobay that you get to explore at the end of the game. I want to poke at marines while they're sleeping and explore the shuttle bay. In the game, they only open a few key rooms for paths but not really let you explore the entire ship. You only get to see like what? 2% of the entire interior of the ship? I WANT THE WHOLE DEAL MAN!!!
