Even Shaz needs a chance to relax and enjoy some quiet time.I haven't really too much to say about this one. Except for that my scanner really hates me some days. It kinda washed out some of the colors. Oh well.
Colored pencil and acrylic paint in a 11x14in sketch-pad. (I really need to look into buying a sketch pad with thicker paper...

This kind of stuff I consider more along the lines of "fanart" verses fantasy. But I guess I do blend enough of the fantasy realm into them. Well, I try at least.

Aww, it's great to see Shadow looking so relaxed for a change. It's kind of a shame we don't see him like this very often in the games- or any other Sonic character for that matter. Nothing like crashin out after a hard day of saving the world from invading aliens, eh Shadow?
I like this kind of design for the Sonic characters. They seem more realistic somehow.

I likes this. Sometimes I swear the official characterization of Shadow doesn't even have "relax" in his vocabulary, his spirit all tied up in angst and hurt...

My fanfic version of Shaz is a lot lighter in heart and personality than the "official" one. At first he may seem rough to one of my readers/RPers, but then they realize that Shaz has personality like a cherry Tootsie-Pop; he's hard 'n sour on the outside, but he's warm, squishy, 'n sweet on the inside.
I think one reason I write/draw him that way is because I hope to somehow squeak out an underlying message. That being, "No matter what you've done or how bad you think you are, it IS possible to turn back to the Light." All one has to do is turn around, and God is right there... by his/her side. "If God is for us, then who can stand against us?" ...and once one realizes that, things will always seem brighter... and that would put a smile on anybody's face. Even moody old hedgehogs.

That is my goal actually with the "Sonic" style characters. I want to push as much of their "real" counterparts in them as far as I can, and yet leave enough of their original designs behind that the general populice can still recognize them for who they are. I won't alway draw/push them like I did for "Stranded" or "Being Lazy." They will most likely usually be drawn like they are in "Zoom'n" or "Thereoms." If that made any sense...

Hehehe, I love his little spiky tufts! Nice use of white acrylic for the highlights, it really makes the texture of his fur/quills stand out ^_^

Yeah, I tried using greys and the paper for highlights, but all the grainy blues and the flat blacks were just not cooperating and making a mess of it all. I eventally had to dig out my tubes of gloss black and white paint to fix what the pencils and the turpentine couldn't. I'm kinda glad I did, 'cuz he turned out better than I originally planned. At first it was going to be a simple sketch with which to amuse myself and nothing more.

I have the same problem x.x I tend to use a lot of white paint (or even Tip-Ex <.< ) myself when doing traditional art ^_^
