Lovely.. I see you have upgraded your camera. I am working on that too and hope to have a 7d before too long.

Good for you! I wish I'd held out until I could afford the 7D. What I've got is definitely a step up but there's something about the look of the shots on the 7D that just make them more appealing.

I hope so. I feel the rebel definately has it limitations. Perhaps it's just me but I'm sure I can do better with better equipment.

I have to agree with you. The head of the camera club and his wife have them and they let you try them so I've had a go. The shots are less grainy at a higher ISO which makes nice shots possible in more adverse conditions. I also found that the contrast wasn't as pronounced as the rebel or the 50D and the colors seemed nicer. It's much quieter and faster too which is a real plus for wildlife. I'd definitely have one if I won the lottery!

Yes I'm looking forward to the higher iso.
and..I have to shoot in RAW because if you remember your Rebel days its clearer than jpeg but I find the raw colour is not nearly as good as jpeg. I seem to have to overprocess everything to get the colour and light I'm looking for. I'll likely continue to shoot in RAW but because I want to not because I have to.

I agree with all of this. I've contemplated switching to a Mac as well because this windows stuff keeps fooling me into thinking it's not so great but if I view things in something other than windows it looks much better even though I haven't changed a thing.

I'm very thrilled to be able to share. Until I started watching the nesting rituals I never thought of these guys as anything but beautiful, noisy bullies because they're so territorial and aggressive towards others. When you see the nesting you realize that they have their soft sides too.

My goodness. This is an absolutely amazing photo. The level of detail you manage to capture, of the blue herons nesting, is simply breathtaking. Truly fantastic shot.
Where did you take this photo at? My guess would be southern Florida around the Everglades National park.

Thanks. I took this in the Clearwater, Florida area. I've been watching them nest in this tree for three years now. The first year two sets of them shared the tree but last year only the one came back and it looks like that's it for this year as well. It's in a very busy county park but it's one of the more natural ones so there are dozens of deer, alligators and almost every imaginable bird. We're lucky to have two types of owls that nest in the park as well.
