Description
My apologies for the unoriginal title for this one and the previous one. Gotta make them easy to recognize, after all
So, after doing a body turn around, the next logical step for me was to work on the face. Of course, this isn't a face turnaround or even a facial construction sheet. If it were, there would be handy tips like "ears and mask are clear indicators of mood" and "eyelids are the same color as primary fur". Instead, what I did was just draw up various expressions that I'd written down on a sheet for Ben. The sketch work of this can be found in my scraps, but this is the finished up result, arranged to be a somewhat similar to the first reference page.
Not sure what else to say about this, except that I had fun working with B.H. in various states. Some of these are expressions that I've not ever drawn before or tried to properly depict, so the simple act of doing them was fun for me. Not sure if they all come across strongly, but that's perhaps one of my longest standing battles. Learning to draw expressions is something I've always wanted to get better at. I feel like the life of a character comes from their expressions. There are still aspects of 'lifelessness' that I find very difficult to avoid, but this at least feels like a step in the right direction.
There's only one more page of this 'model sheet' project for Ben to come, so don't panic if this is boring you In the meantime, as I said on the sketch of this image, feel free to guess what he's doing these reactions to! There aren't any right answers, though I'll admit that I did personally have a scene in mind for each one of these. The upper-middle one was especially fun, as I thought about B.H. walking into Rick's messy, horribly disorganized bedroom

Why are his eyes so grey?
Also, the lovey dovey one is icon material. Make it happen. :3

Whoops! His eyes probably look grey because I have a tendency to avoid absolute black. It probably looks nice and dark on my monitor, but is clearly gray on modern ones. Hopefully that's not too distracting... Maybe I could argue that it's supposed to be a sign of his wisdom, yeah!
I agree with you on the icon idea I made it my icon on Skype pronto. I like my current DA icon way too much to change it, though!

Oh THAT! That's because, well, I have the opposite problem of not wanting to use perfect white Also, there was a time when I had the backdrop as white, and I did that off-white color so that I knew where I was coloring. Hopefully it's not TOO distracting, but I'll try to look out for that in the future

Yes, I am! Sorry that I've not said anything to you sooner, Tim.
Glad that you like these Those two are definitely my favorite of the bunch too. I feel like they're the most expressive.

Now THAT's a raccoon who's full of himself. Love it.
YOU'RE disgusted? Put on a shirt, dude! Seriously!
My eyes are up HERE, BH. Heheh.
"Yes but what exactly does betaproxamine DO for my body?"
Damn it Chaos, stop infiltrating the photo shoot!
And of course, the cute no-teeth happy shot.
In all seriousness, I got nothing but compliments...though the happy shot seems a little odd around the mouth for some reason. I can't narrow down exactly where the problem is...but besides that, fun was had. Good work!

The happy shot was, admittedly, done from a different set of doodles that I'd done earlier that week, where I was trying some different things. I agree that it looks different from the rest, but I do like it for what it is
Really glad you enjoyed this, Chu! Always a pleasure to get your input

I can take a wild stab at it, yeah I couldn't help myself, of course. I had to make at least ONE obvious tickled expression.

Why is he shirtless for the disgusted look?

The boring answer is that I drew his face first, wanted an arm up there, drew it without sleeves first (as I always do) and thought it looked pretty good, so I left it. Mentally, I picture him doing this after seeing something horrifying first-thing in the morning, and BH sleeps in pj pants and no shirt

You're forgiven for the title.
Anyway, I find that this idea is a huge help, because as you know drawing expressions can range from easy to hard. While a facial construction sheet could work to mitigate this, I personally don't always find it helpful. As for the expressions themselves, they're all pretty good, though I'm not sure why, but the disgusted look bothers me somewhat. I can't put my finger on it, though, but other wise there's nothing wrong with any of the expressions, even that one. Maybe it's that lifelessness you were talking about, but I'm still not sure, so I wouldn't take that as a good criticism.
I'm not sure why this would be boring, the more B.H. Raccoon the better, I say. Either way, I look forward to the final sheet, bud.

I'm glad you agree with me on the usefulness of this Heck, maybe it'll even serve you well in the future.
The disgusted look is very different from the rest, I agree. I think, oddly enough, one of the things that makes it look the strangest is that the pupils on the eyes are so much smaller and don't have the same construction as the rest of the cast, so that already gives a different feel. It was one of my two favorite ones to draw, though, as it was a challenge and just involved the most change of his facial structure. The point was to be a little ugly, so I guess that was mission accomplished Thanks for the input, though! Lifelessness is something I always want to avoid.
Really glad you're liking this There's plenty more B.H. to come, and I intend to draw him more in general, hence this sheet in the first place!
