Description
The story "Pride and Prejudice" with all its characters is (c) Jane Austen. My "Pairings" picture number 13: Elizabeth Bennet and George Wickham from Jane Austen's novel "Pride and Prejudice". Warning - spoiler about the story in this comment!
I know, I know! Both are marrying someone else, and especially the couple Darcy x Lizzy is almost iconical today. But as already mentioned at an older picture, I don't intend to portray only lovebirds with my "Pairings" but every sort of pairing I find interesting.
And I know I'm probably part of a clear minority, but I thought from the beginning on that Wickham is a pretty thrilling character. At the end of the day he's a con-man, liar, meanie, but it's fascinating to read how he was able to convince a lot of people of his alleged virtues.
Aaaand I like the chemistry between him and Lizzy. In its entireness. I wonder how they get along when they are later related by marriage? Well, I guess the Darcys avoid personal contact to the Wickhams at all costs. And if a meeting is really really unavoidable Liz says as little as possible to her brother-in-law.
From Wickham's side, though - I dare to presume that he thinks more than once, swinging between honest regret and plain lust, that his pretty clever sister-in-law would have been a better catch than Lydia. Oh well, I also dare to presume that he is able to comfort himself with other women, mpf.
Here they are supposed to be seen shortly before or after their marriages. Lizzy is reading a book about how to be a good wife.
Wickhams looks is rather close to Adrian Lukis, who played him in the famous 1995 BBC P&P miniseries. So far the only P&P film adaption I've seen. I've imaginated my "personal" Wickham differently, and I read the criticsm of fans that the Lukis-Wickham looks too jagged, you can guess at once that there's something wrong with him ... ... well well, but I like the Lukis interpretation of the character also very much. To make sure I'm upsetting the fans, when it comes to the looks alone I find Wickham-Lukis even more attractive than Darcy-Colins.
Everyone fainted?
It might have something do to with it that Wickham-Lukis smiles, grins, laughs a lot, while Darcy-Colins mostly keeps his sulky sulk face.
Okay, stopping here, though I could easily write a few pages more!
At the beginning I thought about calling the picture "Lust and loathing", but then I considered this as too cloddy.

Thank you!
Yes, yes ... I presume that if we stick truly to Austens characterisations, then a deeper relationship would have probably ended in many disappointments for Elizabeth.
