Description Andrew Lloyd Webber´s "Phantom of the opera" movie (2004) is (c) Warner Bros. & Universal Studios. Please feel free to correct me if something is wrong or missing.

Part seven of my fanart series "Pairings": Christine Daaè and the Phantom from the musical movie adaption "The Phantom of the opera"

That movie was released Christmas 2004 - I went three times to the theatre to see it. Record for me, only to the "Lion King" I went so often. I know the critique about story and characters ... or at least some of the critique. Nevertheless I like the film very much. Yes, there are shortcomings, but the total result gets its act together for me. Pleasing for ear, heart, and ...eye. Yes Sir, going to the cinema is worth it when you get such pictures. Movies like this show to advantage on the big screen. Several times I got goosebumps. SIGH! <3

The Phantom-Christine relationship here ... it´s a rollercoaser, isn´t it? I understand Christines decision at the end; however, if Erik would work on himself and return to her as a really refined person - hmmmm.

As already mentioned, I know and understand the critique about character presentation.

I f you are able to look away from points like logic and morale ( ahem... ), many scenes between Mr Phantom an Christine ( like many scenes in general ) are IMO simply EYE CANDY. One of those parts I like especially much is depicted here - the spectacular leaving from the stage. Gosh! How they cling to each other, how Christines skirt goes up looking like another one of those fake flames, how the publicums reacts...!

I also drew this because compared to other scenes that one seems rather underrated to me, even in fan circles.

That moment was actually pretty cool, not to mention a bit sexy- and now I realize the symbology of that scene. (the descent into hell)
From what I know of the PONR from the musical version, I prefer the movie version beause it seems more dark and seductive.

Thank you for commenting!

Like Christine sings "When will the flames at last consume us?" Seems like the director liked to take this quite literally, and I am happy about the idea. I love the opulent-bordering-to-kitschy design of the movie, and the stage during "Don Juan Triumphant" is no exeption.

I've seen a German adaption of Webber's PotO, it seemed like it was quite close to the English original (as far as I know). Yes, PONR looks kinda different here, simpler. They perform it in what looks like a "normal" taverna, the Phantom is fully cloaked (looks almost like a dementor from Harry Potter), no background dancers, and so on. I prefer into what they changed it in the movie as well.
