It really was impressive the first time I fought him and he was swinging what amounted to a volkswagon beetle on a stick around as a weapon. Do you ever get envious? lol

My boyfriend is waiting for Kai as well. Karok is available in US now, but I haven't played much with him. I like the idea of Kai, but I don't understand how they can do a character like that without limited arrows and limited arrows would be a pain. On the other hand, if he has limitless arrows I imagine he'd be like Evie with a more one-on-one focus instead of AOE. Evie is currently my favorite.

Karok should show up somewhere this spring, Kai around the end of the year I heard. Well , I always go for the swift damage dealers first, and it's even better if they're ranged with unlimited supply of ammo XD I recently converted to spears. I love the idea - just jump in and wreak havoc anywhere you go ^^ 3960 Hurricane SPIN SPIN SPIN!

I'm a die hard caster fan. I like Scythe Evie, but it takes a lot of concentration and timing to play since dodging is absolutely required. Staff Evie is easier to stay alive with since you're ranged, but I like how FAST scythe Evie is. I just have to be feeling really aware to use the scythe, or I'll miss that half a second when I have to hit space or be destroyed lol

It's free to play though. There are some pay features, but they are entirely optional. Some of the pay things make the game a lot easier, like better potions, ways to get better equipment, etc. Others are purely for bragging rights, like more advanced character customization. Also, it has real time combat where you actually have to chain combo attacks. It plays more like Devil May Cry or a combat oriented version of Legend of Zelda than like World of Warcraft.

Yeah, I'm aware of systems like that in other games, including the more action-rpg oriented fighting systems and I'm still not that interested, it's just the repetative grind that no MMO seems able to get away from, the very nature of the genre if you will.

I see. I haven't found a way to overcome repetition other than constantly getting a new game with a new story. That makes it very expensive with console games because once I beat a game, it's simply repetitive to play again. If I'm going to have repetition with an online game that updates or repetition with an offline game that does not, I'll go with the online one because I can play with others when the mood strikes me.
On the other hand, I won't play ONE MMO because I'd soon get bored/fed up with it. I play a bunch, and come back to them as the mood strikes me or when a special event that peeks my interest is going on. If I didn't play like 20 different games on and off, I'd probably go stir-crazy from boredom. I haven't actually played Vindictus in months, but I know that fairly soon I'm going to get back into it.

We all have our own systems, I will say though that I find well-constructed single-player games to be more engaging through multiple playthroughs than most MMOs on even an initial run.

I agree with that. The storyline in one player games can be a lot more detailed, and games with a decent new game + system (which, in my humble opinion, hasn't been done better since it was introduced in Chrono Trigger) can have a good replay value. MMOs tend not to be engaging because A) They don't have a good storyline or B) if they do have a good storyline it doesn't last long enough or C) the players in the game are so focused on PvP that partying through the storyline end of things simply isn't going to happen without knowing other players in real life.
I think it's kind of hard to have an MMO be engaging like a single player game. A lot of single player games put you in the part of "Epic hero/heroine" or "epic group of heroes/heroines." Everything you do changes the world you're playing in. Most MMOs are highly static, so the sense of "I changed the world my characters are in" is lost.

Yeah... plus the gameplay mechanics of an MMO tend to be a little... staler. It's hard to explain, but the resources to make that massive world and allow all characters to exist within it and be balanced vs one another means the combat system tends to suffer, and as mentioned before, they drag out the leveling process to keep you playing longer, which is a pretty cheap way to extend gameplay.

Alyssasidhe In reply to Levia-the-Dragon [2012-01-24 20:53:34 +0000 UTC]
I understand the reason that combat becomes stale. If there are different ways to fight then something is going to be broken. WoW has had to nerf or upgrade so many skills over the years to keep one class from simply dominating all others. That part makes perfect sense. You can't have the balance of Skyrim, for instance, where leveling quickly without balancing your abilities results in a warrior of unfortunate proportions (really good at, say, smithing or sneak, but not good at fighting the now higher level opponents that scale with your level).
In general I'd agree with what you said, but Vindictus is a bit different. It's like a cross between an MMORPG and a combat based adventure game like Darksiders or Devil May Cry. It's really fun for a bit, though I will admit that it does get stale after a while. What I do like about it is that you can be good at the game by having quick reflexes instead of simply having the best gear. Even with the best gear, you still have to have some skill beyond knowing what abilities to use. The mastery end of it is more like that of a first person shooter.

The mighty chieftain, is a boss, in a game.
Comx comes to him and with a straight stare, kills him,... .
Because of the points you can acquire for only once per day.
CONCLUSION!!: chieftain is all and mighty COMIX is even Mighty'errrr.
Thats sums all up, so time to grind somemore !

Depends where you are. I'm on the European server.
There are ways to access the USA server, check uncle Google. It's prone to disconnecting tho, I know cuz I tried it once.
