Thank you! I should really try to sculpt something again but super sculpey is kind of expensive for me because it's not easy to get my hands on that where I live. And it's soo much work but also fun. (And I really want to have Dirk-Jake figures ;A; )

Dirk x Jake, such a lovely pair, I really like the Trickster version of their relationship *Giggles*

I just got into the world of polymer clay and sculpting. Clay, tutorial and Trauma Center? Especially Victor? That is a huge win in my book. XD

definitely going to try this here though im going to bake the hair and clothes seperately. when you paint on a layer of white first, does it help make the actual color of the paint look smooth on the final product?

please show me a picture in case you make some~ I'm always interested to see^^
Oh and I did bake hair and clothes seperately too.
And about the paint, I also painted a layer of white before, which I had to do a few layers (especially on the white part of the clothes until it looked whtie) but that doesn't help make it more smooth. What would help though is making much thinner layers of colour.. so you'll need a lot of them (and I'm too lazy for that XD ). That's at least what I heard now, I haven't tested it.

That's a good idea to bake the hair separatly...I might try that with shorter haired characters. I still haven't done a big figure yet. o3o Only tiny tiny characters xD

W-well...Edo-san, your tutorial did prove useful for my figure...and would've looked nice otherwise...but...due to my folly...[link]
BUT! I will have a second one to make after your tutorial!
Forgive me

Oh I feel pretty sorry for you ;_; I really suggest using a special thermometer which you can put in the oven. Because if you heat clay too much unhealthy fumes occur so you should absolutely never overheat that stuff (I am not sure if all clay types are like that though..).. I was watching mine like a hawk and kept checking the thermometer (because the ones on the oven itself are never really accurate).
It looked pretty good I think (not sure what that is you were trying to make so I don't know what it's supposed to look like.XD )
I'm amazed you are already trying again already..xD I probably wouldn't because it would annoy me too much....XD

Y-yesh, I just might do that. Thanks for the information.
Ah, the figure was supposed to look like my featured deviation, but as you can see, it was fairly close.
Actually...it was very annoying...! It took my about five hours to resolve into making another one.

Very helpful! But, where do you get Super Sculpey, and how much does it cost?
And what kind of wire do you use?
π: 0 β©: 1
ChibiEdo In reply to Enju-Yanazaki [2010-10-26 09:36:11 +0000 UTC]
sorry for my late answer..
I bought super sculpey online here: [link]
but it's a German site so I don't know if they ship to america and how much it costs.. I bought Super Sculpey CE in pink/beige which costs 9.70β¬ (around 13.55$) for 450grams (which is the smallest size here). (I forgot how much the shipping was but I think it was rather expensive..
I don't know in what kind of stores you can get super sculpey besides online.. Be careful what kind you buy though because there are different types. Super Sculpey Firm seems to be really hard for example so you might want to stay away from that. (unless your hands get really warm easily.. because then others might be too soft for you.. I'm certainly no expert in this but the one I used luckily fit myself perfectly)
As for the wire.. I don't really know what it is..XD I found it at my grandfather's.. it is pretty easy to shape but not too unstable.. it has to be able to hold the clay after all. maybe it would have been better if the wire had been more firm so that the shape of the figure doesn't change in the end. I also think the wire depends on how large your figure will be. The more clay you use the more stable the wire has to be.
Hope I could help you a bit-^-^-

Nice work and tuto ! ^^
I want to try to make figurines, but this looks too hard for me. I think I will begin with some animals, because I won't have to make hands and hair.

thank you very much!
yes hands and hair are evil<.<
good luck with making figurines~ it's a lot of fun! but it also takes a lot of patience xD

It's not just hands and hair. You've make nose, ears and even eyebrows !
The only time I've try to make some figurines I've just make a ball for the head and paint the eyes and mouth, and give them long hair for hide the ears ! XD
