A bit of "action shots" for the auction. The pawn Magikarps still aren't all finished, but with Gencon fast approaching they WILL be by next month. If you're at all interested in this one of a kind chess set I will be auctioning it off at the Live Gaming Auction at Gencon 2011 in Indianapolis. I plan to start work on a new one of a kind chess set later this year. This one will be Okami themed. I've got some of my planning work already done and it's going to be amazing. I hope you all look forward to it!

This is a rather clever idea, I like the choices as well but if I was making it Id use all the same pokemon for both sides and make it more of a 'regular versus shineys' just to avoid confustion over which pokemon is what aside from the obvious pawns Kings and Queens but this is still pretty neat none the less

Thanks very much! Yeah I considered it, but at the same time since this set is much more on the side of decorative than playable, I plan to label the bottoms of the pieces to help with identification for people wanting to actually play with it. I think that the variety to it was worth the bit of possible confusion. For the next set I'm hoping to have a stronger distinction. But I did try to color theme them at least mostly to keep it a bit more easy to distinguish.

I plan to make another set of chess pieces in the future, maybe a Gen 2, or a full Pokemon one, but I don't plan to make this exact set again. Especially because most people aren't willing to pay how much it would take to make this many time intensive pieces if not as a one of a kind thing like this.
