Description This took me a long time and it still isn't that detailed. Sorry guys. A lot of the process is really just practice and trial and error. Trying things, and whatnot. Whew.

This was the final pony made from this:

I take orders for pony customs at 40 dollars each, note me if you're interested.

My other pony work: [link]

Materials:
A Pony
Sculpey Polymer Clay
Sculpey Glossy Glaze
Tweezers
Scissors
Acrylic Paints
Various-Sized Paint Brushes
Metal Pick (I call it the pokey tool. It's basically a metal toothpick.)
Very Fine Sandpaper

1. I use Liquitex Acrylic Paints, but cheaper acrylics work fine too.

2. Yeah if you leave them in too long, you can deform their face.

3. I use Liquitex Glossy Glaze, it's expensive yeah, it's about 23 dollars per bottle if I remember right. But it does last pretty long at least since I don't need a lot for each one I make.

Ok thanks. So the ponies never catch fire or anything? I'm really worried it might damage the ovenΒ

ChibiSilverWings In reply to BlaziingStar [2015-12-13 23:54:26 +0000 UTC]

No, Just don't bake them with the hair on there, but yeah, at worst they just melt if you leave them in for over 15 minutes.

Mane and tail looks quite thick. Won't that need 30min baking with sculpey?Β

ChibiSilverWings In reply to CalicoGriffin [2016-08-23 20:47:56 +0000 UTC]

The pony would probably melt. I was able to do this with less time, not sure maybe it could have been undercooked towards the center, it wasn't still soft or anything so it worked fine.

There are matte glosses that are less shiny.

Question how do you get the tail to stay on your customs? My tails always break off.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

ChibiSilverWings In reply to Brillonsloup [2014-07-19 06:33:11 +0000 UTC]

I fold a wire and press it through, and then I use Krazy Glue if it's still loose

So plastic ponies don't melt in the oven do they? I've been using air-drying clay for that reason

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

ChibiSilverWings In reply to Usagi-Zakura [2013-12-10 01:00:37 +0000 UTC]

They do, but slowly, so I bake them in 10 min intervals at 275F

Usagi-Zakura In reply to ChibiSilverWings [2013-12-10 14:20:43 +0000 UTC]

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

ChibiSilverWings In reply to yttyr [2013-10-30 06:04:42 +0000 UTC]

I've spend a lot of time thinking on it, and I still can't decide very firmly hmm. I have Flutterfluff here: as my MLP character, but I think if I were a pony I might have a different mark.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

yttyr In reply to ChibiSilverWings [2013-10-31 08:44:40 +0000 UTC]

ok interesting. My OCs cutiemark (not shown in my avatar picture) is an laptop with an starfilled nightsky on the screen. But you cant truly know what your cutiemark would be as we humans dont have them and we have a bit more complicated personalities i think.

yttyr In reply to CatsMusicGamingArt [2017-01-04 09:36:34 +0000 UTC]

Yes, and that's also why I still weren't 100% sure about what my own cutie mark would be but I'm starting to realize that it most possibly could have something to do with CAD. Like an X-Y-Z-axis or something like that.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 0

ChibiSilverWings In reply to yttyr [2013-11-01 17:11:16 +0000 UTC]

That's a cute one! And Yeah. Also I think they sorta only say so much about a character in the show, they're something to interpret sometimes. So even if a cutie mark is pretty plain looking, it can have plenty of meaning to get from it.

I'm bothering you once more...

...I have a question. Or actually, multiple questions. Is Sculpey better than Fimo or Premo? And our oven can only do 175 Celcius, is that a problem with baking?
If you'd answer these questions I would be so happy...~

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

ChibiSilverWings In reply to Jewel-the-Cat [2013-10-20 08:32:58 +0000 UTC]

Premo and Sculpey have some differences. Mostly Premo has some different colors and is usually a bit softer. I haven't used Fimo so I can't say, be I've heard that some people like that it seems to collect less dust and less fingerprints. I don't like it because I think the color range is way worse and it sorta doesn't feel as easy to use, but that's probably mostly lack of practice.

They bake at 130 C At least the Sculpey does.

Jewel-the-Cat [2013-10-18 20:27:41 +0000 UTC]

Hey, I have a tip.

With nail polish remover, you can easily get off the Cutie Mark.

Just... maybe it comes in handy. C:

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

ChibiSilverWings In reply to Jewel-the-Cat [2013-10-18 23:05:01 +0000 UTC]

Thanks! I avoid it mostly because of my parrot, who is really sensitive to fumes, but if I have a need to get some paint off soon, I'll try it

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Jewel-the-Cat In reply to ChibiSilverWings [2013-10-19 12:13:56 +0000 UTC]

Oh, you have a parrot? Awesome

Makes sense then, that you don't wanna use nail polish remover.

I only have a cat (pretty much the cat in my avatar) and he doesn't mind it. Whenever I make stuff (like ponymon), I paint them with nail polish x)

Yeah his lungs are very tiny and sensitive so we're extra careful. Oh really? It seems like that would dry a bit sticky? ButΒ  hey, bet there's some very interesting colors!

How do you change your pony heads? I saw once you said something about using one pony's head on another's body?

ChibiSilverWings In reply to Kwintikal [2013-08-12 18:54:15 +0000 UTC]

I just heat them in the oven for about 2 minutes, then the material is expanded and it's really easy to pop the heads off and switch them.
