Description
This took me a long time and it still isn't that detailed. Sorry guys. A lot of the process is really just practice and trial and error. Trying things, and whatnot. Whew. This was the final pony made from this:
I take orders for pony customs at 40 dollars each, note me if you're interested.
My other pony work: [link]
Materials:
A Pony
Sculpey Polymer Clay
Sculpey Glossy Glaze
Tweezers
Scissors
Acrylic Paints
Various-Sized Paint Brushes
Metal Pick (I call it the pokey tool. It's basically a metal toothpick.)

Okay, thanks for all the help!!! Oh and I don't know if its just mine (I hope it is for the sake of artists like you) but my Rainbow Dashs' mane was SOOOOO difficult to pluck out after mohawking it, she has so many misplaced mane-holes instead of having two nice little rows like my Fluttershy does..... D:

Yeah! Some of them have really weird hair patterns and it's really annoying to pull them off! Especially those with multicolored hair.

thank you so much for making this!!! Me and my fiance want our ponies on top of our wedding cake, and so this will help a bunch! But... how does it not melt? D:

Glad I could help. Oven at 275 for 10 minutes is not actually too hot, they get soft but don't melt.

Amazing work, I have some questions;
What kinda of clay (spesific brands?)
Also what would u bake it on?
(Stupid questions but it ne'er hurts to ask)

I was wondering, If normal ponys only cost 40$, would you charge more for mine since its half dragon, half pony? [link] :3

ChibiSilverWings In reply to Kyaatto [2013-04-19 18:34:43 +0000 UTC]
Yeah a little more to take care of the bat style wings and stuff. I'm not sure how well I'll be able to mod the hind legs to match your design of them, would you be bothered by normalish pony legs? ... Modifying the face and tail are not a problem though.

I use my normal oven, heated to 275F for short bursts.

aren't you worried putting this up here that some people would just make their own instead of paying you? I know I would at least try, find out how terrible I am at it, and then just buy one from you XD

ChibiSilverWings In reply to MilkyWayRhea [2013-02-22 20:43:51 +0000 UTC]
Haha most of the time people pay me because I do a good job and have experience or because they don't want to put in the 8-10 hours of work and money for all the materials to make it themselves. If people want to make their own, I encourage them to try it! It's fun.

My motto is if I find something interesting, I always try it once, and I might gain a new skill, or more respect for the person with that skill.

That's a great motto! I totally agree, it's always great to try new things and it's really neat to learn more about a skill so you can appreciate it better

It's made me a bit of a jack of many trades. I can sing, act, play guitar, draw, sew, and various other things that aren't important enough to mention. All skills acquired via this motto!

That's great! And it's great to keep your mind open, but it's a good idea to specialize in some too! A lot of practice on one thing is the way you get really good

Hiya! I'm interested in doing pony stuff too, but I've been using air dry clay out of the worry that the pony would melt in the oven. Is there any risk of that, or have I been worrying for nothing?
OH, Also great work Suppose I should have put that first >.>

ChibiSilverWings In reply to Mud-kip-per [2013-01-04 05:15:52 +0000 UTC]
Thank you! Depends on the kind of clay you use and the time you bake it for I think. The kind I use bakes at 275F and I only leave it if for 10 minutes so there's very little problem with melting. I just have to keep an eye on them.

It's very interesting to see the process of your work! I'm amazed at the details on the feathers, I hadn't noticed they were so detailed in the finished shots of the pony. Great work!

As always very very awesome! I am working on one now and will let you see it when I finish! Fingers crossed!!!
Also, have you ever tried the smaller ponies and if so, do you think they'd bake 10 mins at 275 as well?
👍: 0 ⏩: 1
ChibiSilverWings In reply to Pau--chan [2013-01-02 06:19:57 +0000 UTC]
Thanks, I look forward to seeing. As for blind bag ponys, I haven't tried. If you're nervous, I'd suggest just keeping a close eye on them in the oven, keep the light on in there, just sit nearby and keep looking XD

Pau--chan In reply to ChibiSilverWings [2013-01-02 06:58:09 +0000 UTC]
Well, I was tlaking like the indivual smaller ponies you see at say, Walgreens or something.
They're like the normal ones, I believe, just smaller in size.
Yeah, I'll have to keep a look out on it when I cook it.

ChibiSilverWings In reply to Pau--chan [2013-01-02 22:12:47 +0000 UTC]
I dunno what you mean? I buy these individually too, for the most part. I don't think there are any smaller ones with the removable hair like these.

Sorry about that. These are the small ones I was talking about; it's just that they're smaller than the ones you use for say like the Tepig Pony you did.
I guess I'd just have to watch them then.

ChibiSilverWings In reply to Pau--chan [2013-01-03 18:26:31 +0000 UTC]
Hmm no I'm pretty much positive that's the same size as the ones I use! Just take out the hair before you bake.
