I don't really know what's up with people and name paranoia. Seriously, there's someone else on dA with my OC's name; do I have a problem with it? Heck, no, lol. Plus, they created their Kira before me x'D
Anyway, it's kinda hard to claim a name too. That's like going up to someone in real life and saying they stole your name, lmao.
Not to mention if you give your OC a fairly "common" name. Alice, Hikari, Sora, and even Rei's are starting to pop up more often, some more than others. Really, just because someone's OC ends up being named the same as yours didn't mean they stole it or something
And on the note of naming: did you ever think they chose that name in consideration of their character's personality, etc? Whether they knew of your OC or not?
I'll admit, I didn't know of the other Kira here on dA til maybe a month after creating my Kira, but even so. My Kira's theme includes "light within the dark", hence her Innocence being named "Afe'la Ohr" for "Darkness' Light". Her name matches, as it means "dark" in Gaelic :> Even if I'd known about the original Kira, I probably wouldn't have changed my ideas, because that was the theme I picked
Names are really no big deal, ya'll. Really, they aren't. And if you're annoyed, I suggest you just click the "back" button or turn the page instead of deciding to bash or rant. It'll get you nowhere to do such

It's like someone from one place irl coming over to another, and someone from that other place has the same name as you, and they're younger. Are you going to tell them that their mom stole your name, especially if it's a common one? Plus, it isn't just the two of you. There's probably a billion other people in the world with that name.

I agree. I remember I saw a speed paint for a Sonic OC (back when I was into Sonic) about a character named Angela (I think). Anyway, the OC was really nice, and there were really nice comments on the video too, but there was one person who said and quote:
"I have an OC named Angela too you have to change yours or delete her!"
I was like,"......WTF did I just read!?"
I mean really. And when the artist replied,"I'm not gonna change my character's name because you tell me to. She's my character, not yours."
And the person said,"F*** you! Change her name!"
I was sitting there face palming. There are probably MILLIONS of Sonic OCs named Angela! I mean really!? That just pissed me off.....

I have yet to find someone else who has an OC named "Matisha", nor have I found any characters named "Xavier". I have found quite a few OC'S named "Amber" as well as a number of characters named "Lucas", and a number of "Carolina's" and quite a few characters named "Neil" and I once found a fanfiction where the main character was named "Harold". I have yet to find a perky goth named Janey though. The names I mentioned are names of my main characters from an original project I have been working on for years.

I know..it makes me laugh. You see I have an Alter Ego, her named is Flamette.Β But I have another OC, I play in a certain fandom. Well it just so happens a friend has an OC named Flamette as well. I just get confused at times, thinking.."WAIT!...Flamette..but why is she godmoding her...Oh wait..derp!" That as far as I go lol.Β Just some odd shock..They share the same names..

Many of my OC names have likely been used before. Miranda, Thea, Yvette, Octavia, and Wendy for certain. However, I don't know if I'll ever find an "Opus" or "Zebulon" character besides my own.

Most names I've used for my OCs have probably been used by other people. I know of several people who have OCs named Ginger, the name of one of my favorite OCs. I found someone who has an Ever After High OC named Ursula - the same name as one of my EAH OCs (and for the same fairy tale too). I don't go for Japanese names because they're cliche.

I hate that name paranoia thing!Its like you said, saying to somebody with your name your stole my name. There's always more than one 'Rose' or 'Joe' in the world. I think some people need to drill that in their skull, you know?

Some of my characters have fairly common names. Andy, Jo, Vincent. Others have more uncommon ones, like Sori, Tero or Gray. And some have names like ΓrsΓ²l. I don't mind characters with the same names. It's always fun to see. c:

Part of the fun of making an OC is that they can have any name you choose to give them. Personally, I researched names for a while before deciding on one, but I'm sure there are tons of people out there who opt to go with a name they already know and like
And guess what people? Kira's a nice name! People can like or even (get this,) USE it! And it's not like you can copyright a name, I mean come on. Yes, you can give someone a name with a really wacky spelling, like Rayhveyn I dun even know, but if you hear about someone else's OC named Raven, you can't be all like "AMG THAT'S MY OC'S NAME YOU HAVE TO CHANGE IT NOW 'CAUSE IT BELONGS TO ME AND YOU CAN'T USE IT"
I even found an OC with MY name (with the common spelling, mine's weird), and did I get all up in the person's face? Heck no! I'm excited that someone thought it was interesting enough to want to use for their character! He's a rather neat OC, too ^^

that's less common with my OC's names, since they're pretty much always sounds put together (example: Carerell, Conaq, Faut, Intuk...)
however when I made my fursona Kuro I also made the name up, but it was actually a pretty common name, thus also being the japanese word for Black, in which my fursona is.
I had found tons of people with the name Kuro, but it never bothered me, I'm mostly like: "kewl, we have the same name"
so yeah. XD

Haha this just happend to me i was looking at random OCs an i found 1 tht looks ALOT like my OC, my OC's name is Star, and so is hers, my oc has red hair and so does hers, haha i just laughed, i used to change my OC alot until i was just like, screw this, my OC can look however i want her too look

xDD I used to have a myspace account for an OC of mine.
It was for RPing. It was up for a good three years, then suddenly
a person popped up on myspace with my OC's name.
Like full name and he even used the pics I used for my OC.
I mean, it doesn't piss me off now, but back then I told the person to remove their account.
Because he stole my character and blah blah blah. Yeah, within a day the person deleted their account.
Which I find them guilty. They didn't even argue with me. They just deleted it.
But I thought I would share my experience.

The only time I'm (only slightly annoyed) is when I make up a name only to find someone else has a character of the same name. Only slightly annoyed though, as I don't get angry at something so trivial and the other person has every right to the name too.

This is so true, actually c': Some of my OCs have less-common names (Sterling, Annelise, Sparkie, Indigo) but it's no big deal, right? And on the other end, how many characters named Sunny or Johnny are there? I don't think I'm even legally allowed to complain xD

Most of the people I've found who's character names happened to overlap mine thought it was a funny coincidence, fourtunately. And, of course, I strive for originality in all my namings, but there's only so many ways to combine the letters of the English alphebet and still have something pronouncable.

XDDD I've yet to have someone use my DGM OC's (Rue) name. Well, actually, I discovered in fictionpress (which was made by the same people of fanfiction.net but it's aimed toward original writing) that there was someone named Rue in a manga story. 
...And Rue is actually a name of a character in the manga/anime, Princess Tutu. Scratch that. Although it makes me wonder if the name itself should be considered Japanese at all since...
