Description

Good day, everyone. I come today with a surprise drawing. I am uncertain if I am late to the celebration, but I’ve been hearing that it is the 20th anniversary of Paper Mario as a series. In honor of that, I have drawn Mario himself along with my persona favorite partner that he ever had, Lady Bow. Yes, I always found this boo fascinating and I tend to have her by Mario’s side through the majority of the first game. Even though she doesn’t do too well with enemies who have defense, she is incredible against the ones who do not and her ability to protect Mario from damage for a turn, is always useful. But I don’t like her for just her skills but also for her appearance and personality. I liked the idea of Mario having a boo for a friend, but Bow is so great. Even if she only had a major role in one game, she still left quite the impression. More so, she makes cameo appearances in the two games afterwards and I am glad to know she was not forgotten because of that. Even if these characters don’t appear out of the Paper Mario series, I like to imagine somewhere these characters still live with Mario’s universe and they remember their grand journey and occasionally take time to speak with their splendid friend whose a superhero, whose a plumber. However, with my praise for this special boo said, let me talk more about my opinion on Paper Mario as a whole. For starters, I never actually played the game on a Nintendo 64, I had a PlayStation 2 and grew up with it for the most part. It wasn’t until Paper Mario was released on the Wii’s virtual console that I’d finally get a chance to play it. I had not expected much when I was barely downloading it, for I thought it would merely a fun little rpg that I’d be done with in no time. But that wasn’t the case. The game turned out to be more difficult than I expected, at least at first. On top of that, I was impressed by the game’s story. It was simple but fun and interesting. It made me curious on what places and wonders laid within the Mushroom World and opened up my imagination to endless possibilities. Perhaps this is why I desired to create a Mario fanfiction series, when I was an active artist. Still, the rest of the game speaks for itself. It was a fun journey with lots of interesting characters and cool things to do. It’s a game I’ve completed multiple times and I still feel like replaying it every now and again. Therefore, I am glad I decided to buy it when I did. Eventually, I bought Super Paper Mario when it was on sale at my local store. While it was different from the first Paper Mario, I still enjoyed it very much. Yes, the gameplay was nothing like the original, but it still felt like a Paper Mario game and once again, the story and characters made the game something to remember no matter what was so different. Eventually, I’d play Paper Mario: Color Splash. Though it’s obviously not the most popular game of the series, I was taken because of its premise. There’s just something a lot of fun about bringing color back to a drained and gloomy land. It’s a premise that has been told many times, that much is not surprising, but the execution here is done pretty well. Also, the threat is genuine yet bizarre at the same time, the final battle can be tough if you haven’t been playing too well. Overall, I adore those three games. I’d play all three games again, but Super Paper Mario had eventually stopped working. It’s a shame, but that is something that happens to every game eventually, a sign of the times perhaps. If there is any game, I didn’t like, it would be Paper Mario: Sticker Star. Why? Similar reason to why the majority dislike it, truth be told. But even so, I don’t think it’s the worst game I’ve ever played. I just find it to be dull compared to the others. Still, if there any regrets, it would be about me never getting a chance to play Paper Mario: The Thousand Year Door. I’ve heard many tales of this game, every praising it to be one of the best games ever. Alas, it was one I let slip by me. Regardless, that is my experience with the games. I’ve yet to play the newest one, I think it looks divine, but with the current price tag and with other projects ahead of me, I can’t say I am too interested to try it anytime soon. Now, I think it’s time we finally talk about the drawing itself. Let’s start off with Mario. I don’t draw Mario in his paper form too often, but I think he turned out alright. He is a little slouched which kind of makes it look like he is sad. While not intentional, I believe this happened because I had slight issues putting his head and his body in the correct angle, thus he looks a little tilted. But other than that, I say he looks decent. As for Bow, she was a little tricky to sketch since her body is mostly round. It worked out somehow since she still looks like a boo. As for her face, I was attempting to go for that, casual, sly smile she has throughout most of the game. But I think I didn’t curve it correctly and now it looks a little more generic. But, I still seems to suit her. I also added a little tooth showing since the inside of her mouth is filled with sharp ones. I was also going to add her holding her fan, but I didn’t know how to put it so it would look natural, so I scrapped that idea. With all that said, I like how this turned out and I am delighted to have talked about my joy for the series. While it’s uncertain on what will happen to it from here on, I believe it’ll be fine from here on.

Oh yes. The Lady has a lot of sass with a sense of elegance. She is a treat to be around. But the game truly was better than I expected it to be. Even though it isn't hard to play, I think it's a fine game especially considering how much it expands Mario's world. I think the sixth chapter of the game is what I like best. It's the flower fields in which you enter a meadow of flowers that need help from their constant cloudy weather. Overall, it was a game that started off a great series.
