There was this one dipshit I saw that said something to the effect of "I wish I was alive back when this song came out on the original vinyl".

That was a comment on a music video. Which was right there online. For free.

There is no logic in this place.

It's gotten to the point where these people will worship any music that was mainstream before they were born. They're like the weeaboos of antique music, and just as obnoxiously arrogant and mindless about it too. I blame the bastards at MTV.

"Born in 1995, listening to Genesis. Yes, we exist." No shit Sherlock, I'm one of them. There are over 7 billion people in the world with their own unique standards. It would be statistically weirder if there was nobody on the planet with those two traits.

"This is real music!" ...as opposed to fake music? The people behind it could have a "fake" personality and/or appearance, but how the hell can sound waves be fake? Because you don't happen to like it? Nevermind the fact that other people like it, but because you don't, it's not "real music". I think people used to be this pretentious as a joke only, but then lines became blurred over time and people started being serious about it.

And seeing as this is all about music, do you hear something in the background? What's that? It sounds like the faint cry of bagpipes. Oh my god, it's a Scotsman! And he's here to tell you that his homeland has rejected your claim as a true resident.

"Today's music sucks" That is not an objective determination. It's your personal opinion which you've managed to self-righteously delude into a "fact". The people enjoying "today's music" probably think the same way about your music.

There's this one crackpot who gave me shit over this and his argument was basically that these retarded comments are "inspiring". Pretentious hipsters in the YouTube comments who go out of their way to brag because they think their musical tastes are something to behold are inspiring? Hmm.

Screw the elitists, listen to whatever the fuck you want. There's nothing wrong with promoting things you like, but arguing about other people's musical taste as if it affects you in any serious way is just... dumb. Music is for entertainment... usually. Chillax.

I have a theory about why some people might possibly do this: they were always the babies of their families. They grew up hearing "kids these days" from their older relatives, are now insecure about the year they happened to be born in, and are trying to "compensate" for it by sucking up to their juvenoid elders. This is anecdotal I admit, but I'm throwing it out there anyway.

If this is you, I hate to say this but you're wasting your time. They will never view you as an equal because you're from separate generations. They will never take you seriously, you will always be a "kid" to them, and it's better to just accept that. Stop trying to seek validation from your parents' friends and give people your own age a fair chance.
