Followup to a question asked on this piece: www.deviantart.com/chocodiley/β¦Yep!
Hyden does indeed get sick much more often than average. In fact, he has the unique ability to suffer sudden, unexplained bouts of debilitating illness when asked to do something he doesnβt want to do. (Thankfully, these bouts of illness seem to clear up just as quickly as they come on.)
But he also gets regular-sick more often than most. Worse, it takes him quite a long time to recover from illness. Even with cutting edge health tonics and potions to bolster his recovery, a mild cold can sometimes linger in his system at a low level for weeks.
Being sick also makes him even more sour and temperamental than usual, as he has a very low tolerance for any sort of physical discomfort. If he's sick, he makes sure that his misery is shared equally with everyone around him by constantly complaining, whining, and demanding even more special treatment than usual.
His immune system was even worse when he was a child. As the only heir to his family viscountcy, and a sickly heir at that , the adults in his life were very, very careful not to expose him to unnecessary illness or injury. He was encouraged to stay safely inside rather than go out and play with the other children (something he didn't mind, he was a pretty nerdy kid) and was not allowed to learn fencing and horseback riding with the other young nobles. Luckily for him, his health became rather more robust as he grew up, but because of his sheltered upbringing, he never got the childhood experiences or learned a lot of skills that other Western Kingdom nobles typically possessed.
