Description
The ship went down. Hard.
It's ancient systems screeched in alarm as soon as the tiny craft was clear of the Thunderflare's auxiliary hangar bay. Safety systems kicking in, it took me down to the nearest rock it could find. Still far out of the Goldilocks zone, much too close to the sun to support life. Although it must have at one point, there was an atmosphere.
The craft was so unlikely to survive reentry to an atmosphere. I closed my eyes and awaited the end, but it didn't come. On the horizon a dot. Not another dune or rocky outcrop, something unnatural- a structure. Probably only dust, but still my only chance. Grabbing the manual controls was too much for the little snub-scout-ship, engines cut out before landing, the ejector seat still worked though. All supplies and provisions except one tiny canteen of water went up in flames with the remains of the ship. It's at least a couple of hours hike back to the structure I saw. Desert doesn't make for leisurely strolls, and the sun isn't even at it's apex yet. I doubt anyone will ever find my bones.
