Description
The life cycle of a fisher crame is one of the most important details surrounding it, and within my writing a sizable portion about it is dedicated to their life cycle and reproduction..
This small illustration depicts the life cycle, with clockwise arrows going from eggs, to a larva, to a mature adult. The eggs are laid during fall, only to stay dormant for over two years until the start of spring. The larvae soon after come out, and feed on plant matter for about 50 to 60 days.
.
After gaining enough mass, larvae will hide underwater to shield themselves from the spring storms, and for a week they will metamorphosize into a small version of the adult form. Even after metamorphosis, crames will regularly molt their shells and skin, growing up to 2 feet in length.
.
Once fall comes around, millions of crames will hurry to mate and lay eggs as the surface cools, and almost immediately after mating/laying eggs they will die, due to the high energy usage coupled with not choosing to eat within the mating window.
