Description
Still playing around with the colored paper. Fun stuff. Still figuring out what works and doesn't. The color pencil is harder to use on this paper. I tried rendering Supergirl's face with white color pencil and it came out....iffy? Yeah, not good. The texture of this paper makes smooth color pencil work difficult. I'll have to use it more sparingly than I did on the smooth bristol where I'd often use it on skin rendering etc. This means I'll have to get better with my washes. I've improved a lot over the last year with white paint, but subtle rendering with paint still gives me headaches.Markers, white paint and some color pencil

I hope so. I'll be starting a list next week and I'm offering the color paper for the first time. I'm hoping to get some takers.

Lol. Its like Hugh Hefner, after all these years, throwing a party and worrying that no one will show up.

Ha! Thanks, but the color is competing with the tried and true bristol. I think some folks will have a hard time picking it over the ol' standard. Maybe some of the repeat clients will get one. I hope to get a few at least.

the results on the blue do seem more effective though. I like how spidey and dare I say it, even cap came out. (not a cap fan.) the blue seems good I say, for certain cases I suppose.

Thanks. Cap's a natural for this color paper. Some of these were random, but Cap and Bats were the first guys I thought of. Plus, I love Cap's outfit

Very nice! They have kind of an action-figure or maquette feel, which I think is totally cool. Hulk is especially menacing looking and has really nice form. Fantastic stuff!

I have to say that I ADORE Logan and his expression. That thoughtful "Do I need to kill you or can I finish my smoke?" look is so him. Awesome work.

Thanks. I remember Logan smoking all the time back in the day..not cool anymore I guess, but it still works for me.

I loved Logan and his cloud of smoke. I think one of my fav scenes was when he was on Either Cable or Bishop's ship, lit up and sliced up the automatic extinguisher which popped out.
But you know, now he has to wear a helmet when riding his motorcycle. I have comics where not even Rogue and Jubes wore them.

I think it's Strathmore (could have been Canson) that makes this perfectly smooth toned paper. I've used it before and it was completely sexy. I'd look into it if I were you, before being so put off by this paper.

ChristopherStevens In reply to hiphopfarendo [2009-12-01 05:15:53 +0000 UTC]
Thanks. This is the Canson Mi-Tientes paper. Heavy texture on one side, semi smooth on the other. I've found a smooth color paper, but the colors were crap. The red peices in my gallery were on a nice, smooth, thick board, but the red was the only color I liked. I'm still looking for the perfect paper.

Thanks. I go for a semi real/semi cartoon thing. I want things to have a tangibility in them, but still look like comic art. If that makes sense.

Scadilla [2009-11-30 04:01:16 +0000 UTC]
I think that rough texture you get with colored pencils could be used to your advantage. Use them on things like Thing's rocky skin, robot armor or anything that would require a bit of a rough feel. The washes are also coming along nicely. Spider-Man and Batman's torso and arm in particular came out pretty spiffy.

ChristopherStevens In reply to Scadilla [2009-12-01 05:21:44 +0000 UTC]
Yeah, absolutely. I use the color pencil to get texture on my bristol board pieces and I can get a much deeper texture on this paper...just not for a girl's face LOL.
