Description
A Thunderbird returns home, with a nice buildup of static electricity for the young ones. It's actually another speedpaint. I was trying out some of the painting techniques from this walkthrough: [link]
It was a lot of fun.
That walkthrough really helped streamline my speedpaint process. I'll have to try working in some more lighting and color into the next one.
Comments and criticism are always welcome.

Why do your speedpaints keep looking so freaking epic!!!
This is outstanding work, as you seem to have a habit of doing.

Pretty cool, I like the dark colors, they contrast with the lightning bolts coming from the thunderbird and it's eyes. The background also looks awesome.

Sorry for late comment Chromamancer, Thunderbird is known as one of greatest legendary bird even compared with phoenix, basically reason why is, just like zeus. in old days, lightning was just scary as fire did, and. there is some novel (I don't know well about thunder bird legend. So.) that start the line with 'Creation of Life with the Thunder', and it does make some sense.
Seems Tail is based on dragon, or lizard's tail, since never seen a bird that had that kind of tail, but it just fit perfectly, guessing that new idea of yours are always perfect and sharp.
I have no objection about any detailing problem since I cannot caught any.
I do not know exactly what you wanted to apply in left side of background, but it just fits, using background without precise detail but smooth edge of shadow amplified the world that thunder bird fits.
Guessing another great piece of art as always!
Thanks for great Art, and I will wait for the next.

Thank you.
I had a lot of fun with this one.
I thought about a feathered tail with large plumes, but after sketching a few tails, I decided to go with the dragon tail. It's a bit more unusual, so I think it gives the bird a bit more character.

I wanted to make the thunderbird look imposing at first, then put the chicks in there, to show another side of things.

Thank you.
It's a speedpaint for me, at least. I can spend quite a while on one picture, so 3 hours is quite quick for me. I'm doing a bit of practice to get better with speedpaints, and learn how to work a bit more efficiently.

nice, when I first saw speedpaints, they were all really messy, but since joining this site, i see now how good people can work in even the shortest amount of time.
good luck !

I went through that same experience.
So, I started looking at those speedpaints, and pictures I liked, to learn the process and technique behind them. It's quite interesting.

Ah, nice to see your work again, I was getting worried you've run off! Anyway, I do like this one, especially the electricity on the Thunderbird. The feet are interesting, and the baby birds are adorable. Keep up the good work!

I've been making art recently, though. Did you see this one? [link]
That's still relatively new.

It can make it easy to miss things. It does make handling the large numbers of deviations that come from certain groups easier, though.
I've been submitting away, though. There may be a few more new ones.

Brilliant job on this one!
Your speedpaint are certainly improving, the feathers look like they could have taken some extra time, but the fact you did in just 3 hours is mind-blowing The colour scheme is also mighty nice on this one, cool without over saturating it
What I think might be missing from the piece is a couple of lightning highlights? I think that would really level-up the piece a lot
Keep up the sweet work!

Chromamancer In reply to JesnCin [2010-05-12 16:11:52 +0000 UTC]
Thank you.
I used a few more references than normal, this time around. For instance, I looked up a diagram of the wing structure when I was drawing this. I think that really helped.
I might have to make a little retouch later, and add a few more highlights in.

JesnCin In reply to Chromamancer [2010-05-14 11:15:02 +0000 UTC]
no problem
Ah yes, wing structures are pretty hard for me XC (or maybe I just don't draw them enough) I'm certain the references helped it out a lot though!

Very good for only 3 hours ^^ when we see it in full view, we can see there is a little lack of details, but it's still great

Chromamancer In reply to Evolvana [2010-05-12 11:34:27 +0000 UTC]
Thank you.
I did make the picture originally on oekaki, and upscale it with a vector trace. Unlike some of the other traced pictures I've made, I didn't do much, other than color correction after that. Adding in a little more texture after upscaling may have helped.
I'll see if I can fix that next time.

I love the idea behind this I'm digging the glowing purple.
But what happens when there's no thunderstorm to eat? Does the Thunderhawk just pick up a lot of static by rubbing its feet on the carpet?
