Description
My first Avatar-inspired deviation!I could have gone for a ground view showing one of the many epic landscapes. But that can always be done later. I don't see much of the space scene seen very early on in the film, so that combined with the fact I promised many people my next 360 "Vue It" work was going to be a space one just meant it was the right theme to choose. It was at least lighter in polygon count than my first two that were very "tree-heavy" bumping their polygon counts into the several millions which resulted in countless crashes. Still had a fair amount with this but comparatively not as bad so bouts of swearing while making this was minimal
As for technical aspects, this was testing a version of Vue that can't actually render planets to its limits, that along with clever use of postwork allowed me to simulate a pretty authentic looking world below the viewer anyway. Rendering would have taken eons for me and so I got help, so I'll jump to credits for help before continuing:
Anyway, this required constant hopping between Vue 7 and Photoshop as some areas needed to be painted on and then brought back into the 3D world again to be rendered with the right amount of distortion and then composed in Photoshop again etc. I won't ramble on, Ill just say it was as hard to do as it looks, so just enjoy it!
Vue it - Pine Shrine
Vue it - Christmas Village
Vue It - Holiday House
Vue It - Haunted Harvest

This is really something! It's incredible, and I have to say it's different from your other interactive projects, not that that's a bad thing. I really love the clouds and the planets are really something. I'm sure this took quite some time, and I think you did an amazing job.

Thankyou! Yeah its different mostly because the first two were on the ground and all of the suddenly we're out in space I think the grounded ones do feel more real. But space ones a re cool in the "floating around" kind of sense, and the planets were a joy to work on too

AAAAHHHHH YOU'RE SO GOOD!!! I love your work, man. Seriously.
I came to this page without seeing the title, and I panned over to the ship, and was like OMG, it's from AVATAR! And then I saw the title.
I'm sure it takes a lot longer, but these interactive pieces are so interesting! I really have no conception how it is put together in Vue It. I have a little experience with 3D models in Maya, but I wouldn't know how you manage to create such an awesome piece!! Maya gives me issues with distorting the image and stuff. *shrug*
I did notice, though, there seems to be two thin lines on Pandora's surface where the hazy cloud cover didn't get drawn or something. It looked kind of like it might have happened in transferring from Photoshop to Vue it, if it's anything like when you create a texture on a surface in Maya. I could be wrong, though
But still, once again, you have floored me with your work. Beautiful and fantastic!!

Chromattix In reply to DanteRoseDen [2011-05-20 05:00:39 +0000 UTC]
Thanks a lot for the nice compliments. It's cool you were able to recognize the space station straight away anyway, I had to see it a few times before I remembered it exactly myself
Yeah these are very hard to do. If one has the right 3D tools and skill then Photoshop isn't really needed. But like with all my work, Photoshop is used anyway since there's lots of stuff that's faster and easier just for me to paint instead
Those lines weren't on the artwork itself, both *freelancah and I had some confusing technical difficulties with the lines appearing after putting it into this interactive format. The program kept doing it against my will but we didn't know how to fully eliminate it Fortunately they're at least very thin and don't affect the image much

A year and a half...?
This is quite incredible my good sir. That massive swirling hurricane is really something. I also really like how it's all not green rainforest dominating the planet. I can see a path of desert (or flat plains perhaps?) which just adds to it's realism.

Chromattix In reply to hi-im-bud [2011-05-19 14:50:20 +0000 UTC]
Lol, don't panic, that was only how long ago the movie was - I wasn't working on this back then I started a couple of months ago at the most and had to put it on hold a couple of times
Even on tropical worlds I like leaving some brown areas, it does look way more natural, and the desert area of the planet probably is my favourite part. It works with the sky in that area a lot too I think

This must be the "epic project" you were talking about, looks simply magnificent! I'm half expecting the satellite to turn into Soundwave from Transformers... maybe I've been playing too much Revenge Of The Fallen on my 360.

Chromattix In reply to Lee99 [2011-05-19 13:14:02 +0000 UTC]
This is one of them anyway, probably the biggest as far as dA is concerned though
Hmm, I never thought of Transformers - a satellite would make a pretty massive one though, considering they triple in size when going to vehicle to robot

I have no idea how you create these interactive pictures, but they are pretty fun to play with.
Yeah especially generation 1 Transformers, they could literally change in size, Megatron, an 11 foot tall robot morphing into a handgun.
