Description
My first Avatar-inspired deviation!I could have gone for a ground view showing one of the many epic landscapes. But that can always be done later. I don't see much of the space scene seen very early on in the film, so that combined with the fact I promised many people my next 360 "Vue It" work was going to be a space one just meant it was the right theme to choose. It was at least lighter in polygon count than my first two that were very "tree-heavy" bumping their polygon counts into the several millions which resulted in countless crashes. Still had a fair amount with this but comparatively not as bad so bouts of swearing while making this was minimal
As for technical aspects, this was testing a version of Vue that can't actually render planets to its limits, that along with clever use of postwork allowed me to simulate a pretty authentic looking world below the viewer anyway. Rendering would have taken eons for me and so I got help, so I'll jump to credits for help before continuing:
Anyway, this required constant hopping between Vue 7 and Photoshop as some areas needed to be painted on and then brought back into the 3D world again to be rendered with the right amount of distortion and then composed in Photoshop again etc. I won't ramble on, Ill just say it was as hard to do as it looks, so just enjoy it!
Vue it - Pine Shrine
Vue it - Christmas Village
Vue It - Holiday House
Vue It - Haunted Harvest

Damn 0_o This is definitely something worthwhile So much time had to go into this one man. I love every detail especially the Stars. That satellite ( It's a satellite right?), It's very detailed and that World, Oh man. :clapplz:

Thanks a lot, it certainly took a lot of time to do The satellite is the space station seen at the beginning of the movie, couldn't find its name or exact use but I'm assuming it's where all the humans are held before going down
The world below required the most work, but it's probably my favourite aspect of it

Geez, I know I should say more, but I've got nothing better to say other than this is one hell of an amazing job. In my top 3 favorite Deviantworks. The world is brilliant, Those clouds even look real.
It looks like Google was like, alright, cool we've got most of the earth mapped out on camera, now let's go back into space and just take a picture of it period to finish it off.
Good stuff bro. lol

Virtual reality would be awesome, I'd like to make something like this you put over your eyes so you can really feel like you're in it

That is so much more interesting than doing the surface of Pandora or something like that! love the idea. The sheer sense of vastness you create is brilliant.

Chromattix In reply to toidarian [2011-05-18 03:48:02 +0000 UTC]
I will probably do the surface someday, there's a lot of potential environments to choose from. But I wanted my next one of these to be a space one anyway. Most will be original environments and space scenes, once in a while an Avatar one might be made though
Yeah, getting a sense of scale was really important here, everything is way more massive than in the first two

It's good when even non-fans of something can appreciate work based off it. I've faved fan-art of stuff I normally don't care about myself too, simply because it looked so great

Seriously, this is the kind of thing that when you are reading a book you can only DREAM of imagining. So many people try to pull off space art and fail, but this just hits the nail on the head, hands down the most breath-taking image I have ever seen...
This is Priteeboy Kingdome!

Thanks a lot! There's tons of good space art on here, though usually with many it's just as they get good at it that they decide to move on to something else...Happens to a lot of artists actually. When I get good at something I'd never want to drop it, I'll just add something else to do if I feel like a challenge again rather than change completely
