Tutorial dedicated to my friends here on how to add textures and brushes in SAI Mostly technical stuff in this tut...Hope you will find it useful :'D
I use PaintTool SAI English Pack v1.1.0
Feel free to ask me questions and let me know if you find some mistake

ive tried this several times in diff ways and it hasn't worked, just tried papertex and all my brushes disappeared ;;

When I put my .bmp files into the "elemap" folder and clicked "start-sai" none of the brush shapes popped up ;;

Idk if you could help with this, but I've purchased the legit version of sai and dont have a "do-it-yourself" folder. I've redownloaded sai too and that doesnt do anything. It could be the version maybe bc I have v.1.2.0

I tried both papertex and blotmap but for some reason they dont work for me :/ I can find the blotmap ones but they look just like regular brushes, and the papertex appear in the .conf files but not in sai :c. Can someone help? at least by telling me how to make the blotmap brushes do something on my canvas XP

It didn't work.. I have the start-sai thingy but the teture didn't appear. I tried to manually add the texture but when I try to save the note file it says "access denied" D:

It took me forever but I think I figured it out. You have to move the Sai folder where all the .conf files and everything are to your desktop or documents. Mine was in "program files" and when I moved it to "my documents," it worked. The only problem now is I have the papertex, blotmap, and elemap textures in Sai, but for some reason I can't get the brushtex to show up in my textures

hmm.. I tried moving to desktop but the textures still don't show up in the "Paints effect" session, not even the standard SAI's "jeans" texture which I actually used once (I don't remember how, though

You have to add the textures in manually though. Like in the wordpad document. I think it'll work then but for some reason everything else but the brushtex.conf worked for me. Β Hmm, that's funny. Yeah, I think if you put it in My Documents it might work.Β

Question. When I try to edit the configuration files in Notepad, it tells me ACCESS DENIED every time I try to save. Would you know why?

Late reply, but if you're still having the problem, try saving it to your desktop and dragging it to the folder instead.

You're tutorial is the best and easiest, I have looked at so many and have gotten so confused but yours worked and I'm very happy, but I did come across some difficulty. So I basically did all four things (adding papertex, brushtex, ect.) and I added the elemap one and was able to get the pattern with my brush but on top of it is just another line⦠So like I've got my pattern on top is the brush stroke as if I drew a standard line on top of it, does that make sense? How do I get rid of that??

hhhnnnnng its not working D: i downloaded a texture pack and i dragged the grayscale .bmp files to the papertex, blotmap, and brushtext but i have nothing to put in the elemap thing, is it required? because i have done everything else...

I can not get the textures to work for the life of me. Its 512x512 .bmp and I've gone and saved them all as greyscale and it still doesn't work. help?

Ok, I think I did something wrong, when I use a custom brush texture it doesn't work, it just looks plain. the texture is grey, bmp, and 512x512. It even shows up on the drop down menu under the right name D:

Make sure you convert the texture image file as grayscale (even if you use only gray to color/make texture, most paint softwares create files in color mode).
To do this in Photoshop, go to menu:
Image > Mode > select "Grayscale"
Or you can use any other software that can help you convert an image's color mode.
