This is part one of two.This tutorial was put together by !!
I just took the pictures, really.
(Great work, I love it)If there is anything on this tutorial that is confusing-- or you have more questions, please leave a comment or send me a note. I'm new at this, I'm still learning what works, and what doesn't.

I am a little confused by the last comment on step 3.....you say it is easier to paint white over black (which I always thought was not the case.....I would think the dark colour would bleed through the white thus needing Extra layers of white.....BUT OK....SUPPOSE YOU ARE RIGHT......whoops sorry caps)....your next part sentence contradicts the previous part of the sentence stating ;It is a little harder to hide black under white"

No. In fact, this tutorial is somewhat out of date.
I do not REALLY recommend painting the shoes white
before starting. You can, but it is more prone to
cracking.

So would bother painting it a base colour if u used fabric paint?? Or would u just paint yr design onto the shoe

Painting the design directly onto the shoe would
probably be best. 
That way, the paint soaks into the fabric-- it
doesn't just sit on top of paint. It would be
prone to cracking or chipping, I think.

It is a waterbase sealant.
I reccomend brush-on varnish, too. They both work well for me!

The shoes I made for myself are Vans, slip-ons. The shoes I made for my daughter [link] were "Faded Glory" $12.00 at wal-mart. My shoes are showing a fair amount of wear on the paint--- hers look like I just painted them.
