Description Experimenting with some cover concepts for my latest novel 'The Ruby of Nallamalai' (not published). It is a mystery-crime novel set in the 1930s, inspired by Dashiell Hammett's 'The Maltese Falcon'.

Equally as wonderful as the first design! I can't decide which I prefer as a book cover, though. While this design is definitely more "booky" than the previous, I thought the earlier design was more interesting to look at and made me more curious about the story itself. Maybe if you could find a way to combine the two...

If you trying to imitate the 1930's then you should study the line art and forms of the illustrations of the 1930's.

Your style lends itself sooo well to this time period. This looks fantastic! Looks like a very interesting pairing with these two!

Yes, I think this one would be better for a book jacket: besides, the figures against the background (perhaps the lettering, too) make me think somewhat of Gustav Klimt.... 7@=e

There is a certain likeness, but he isn't as awkward as Gussie and his main interest aren't newts, but insects ans arachnids

yes, but it's the period and clothing style that clicks for me. (and yes again, i expect he is not a newt fanatic. )

I like this one much better as a book cover. It has a muted feel, but is still quite intriguing. :3

The other, I think, would be better as a movie poster.
