It had taken some strings being pulled, but evening had been extended for this day alone. But for them, there could be nothing less. So as the sun set, leaving the stars to glimmer down upon Canterlot, the fruits of their labor floated high above. How long ago it had seemed, when the stars lacked their great white warden and somber guardian. But together with their friends, they had put right that terrible wrong, and so many others. Now, years later as Equestria finally breathes a sigh of relief, there could be no better time. So ponies, and zebras, and camels, and deer, and creatures stranger still all flocked to the great city of Ponies to witness this most joyous of days. The adventures were done, the trials complete, and all was well. All thanks to a group of ponies, a group of friends. Though they may have fought once, their quests had tempered their friendship into an unbreakable bond. And for one pair, something more. It is this pair that so many have gathered for, to see the climax of their own adventure and the beginning of a new one.
The Pirate King was most obvious, though he was not alone. His travels had been easier on him than the others, though he still bore the scars of many a battle hard won. Beside him sat another, his loyal first mate. She bore a cunning grin to match her captain's mostly sane grin. Unicorn and earth pony sat at the fore alongside the others, though their clear nautical attire drew some hushed whispers and quiet awe. The sword at the First Mate's side, and the bandages around The Pirate King's horn drew even more stares from the older of the attendees.
Next was the Starseer, a cerulean mare in a matching dress studded with her namesake. Her name was known far and wide, her power and greatness known even to the most remote of cities. She argued with a stallion of near transparent sparkling brown crystal, his mane slicked back and coat grand. The Outlier stood out even now; without the eyepatch, the bracelet, the earring, or anything besides an ornate gold amulet studded with an emerald. He smiled even as he traded verbal prods with the Starseer, the scars of his travels forgotten for today.
Off to the side, almost out of sight, sat the Living Shadow. Even on a day like today, he still wore sunglasses and ankh, though his signature hat was white for today alone. Ever at his side was the Spirit of the Inferno, a teenage mare of gentle flame. Pegasi both, though few would notice the wings of metal scale or flame before the shadowy armor both wore. Those who did spoke in whispers unheard by whispers, lest they be noticed. Not for fear of wrath, but even comforting shadows are found disturbing in spite of sunlight.
Last, at least of those who had seen the world's greatest secrets, was the Slayer and the Lich. Though despite many looking, none had managed to find the pair, sequestered from the world as they were. In their stead, a teenage dragon scaled in green and wearing a suit of a darker shade. Less known than many of the Travelers, the Keeper was still found by one little colt with stars in his eyes and a photograph to be signed. Alongside him, garbed in the robes of his brethren instead of the armor he often bore, was the Skyborn Scholar. As he had lived to write books aplenty telling of the Travelers, now he wrote the tale of two's next great journey.
That left three of the Travelers, though two arrive in due time. First to appear is the Wandering Wind, stripes of black and white hidden under a suit he cannot see. Though his chocolate eyes see nothing, he finds his way to the fore with a practiced ease despite the noise. A gray mare begins the music, her cello leading the attending musicians into a slow piece to tug at the hearts of all who hear. And so it begins, and with nary a hushed breath does he emerge.
Dressed in the purple armor of his Princess, the Blade of Equestria comes. White coat under his ceremonial garb, lost to a mane that flowed in the breeze over piercing teal eyes. Though some of his aches remain, it is with a sure confidence that he walks. At his side strides an armored pegasus, the Sword of the Storm, as his best stallion. Both draw the air to near silence with their presence alone as the ceremony begins. They come to a stop at the fore, the Princess of the Moon above waiting for them before the great curtained window. Both turn, the Blade staring down the aisle with breath held. A breath that rushes out at the sight of the Merchant of Worlds, dress of a finery rarely seen in Equestria today and certainly hoof stitched by a master of the craft. Saddle Arabian jewelry adorned their brow below a beautifully styled mane of cerulean. The Merchant was preceeded by a pair of young teens, a colt and filly. The Snowstorm and the Sandstorm spread snowflakes and petals before the Merchant, whose each step lead the music as if the castle itself were paying it's respects. Behind walked the Lifekeeper, the Merchant's train held in her mouth. A radiant beauty herself, even she was overcast by the Merchant's glory.
And so the two met, facing one another and the Princess of the Night. She spoke a few words, and no objections were to be heard among the mass. The vows were said, rings presented. One of dusky gold around the horn of the Blade, one of shifting silver slipped onto the twisted horn of the Merchant. And so with one last word from the Princess of the Night, their hearts were sealed together by a single kiss. Above the curtains were pulled away, revealing the last of the setting sun's rays through the stained glass window depicting their last great tale apart, and the first told together.
But every dream must come to an end, and as Janji's eyes open under his messy cerulean mane, his dearest wish is that this one hadn't. The sun may have risen, but he rolls back over and hugs his pillow. The first of many tears slips off his muzzle onto Edge's bed as he slides back into sleep, alone once more.
