The strong contrast between yellow and black makes me think of my town (south italy), where especially in the past women dressed mainly in dark cloths.
But their eyes have always been the eyes of strong people...
people who sometimes sees more than he/she wanted to.

Great use of space and color. The eye differences in all the women shows so many personalities, but all are yet to be clothed in the same thing, as if hiding inviduality. And the fact that they're all women just pushes the viewer to think about the culture and where the setting takes place, as well as what it means. Your work says so many things and sparks so much to think about. It always deep and thoughtful. Wonderfully done, as always.

what a great way to depict these women. they have been so mistreated and the look of desperation on their faces is captured so beautifully here. there is one woman however that seems to stand out from the rest and i feel like she needs more shading on her face either on the forehead or nose area. the center woman's skin seems too soft and doesn't really go as well with the other curious and contemplative faces of the other 4 women. just a suggestion. nice work!

I'll have a relook, this is last year's work, so, half-forgotten as far as details go, really.
thanks for liking it though , and the suggestion

The womens faces and the landscape being the same color makes so MUCH weight on them "physically"; one can't help but assume they are under terrible oppression....That the way the black clothing surrounds them WEIGHING DOWN - aides in this...
All politics aside - this is one of MY FVAORITE paintings you've ever done...Very expressive....Stark feeling but lush visuals...The polarities of the two make this an absorbing piece
VERY GOOD
I hope you are happy with this one; you should be

yes, I like this one, more because it attempts to speak for the forgotten and the unwitting victims - whether under Saddam or later.
Surprising that THEY at least [and only] talked about Afghan women, not even a word about these. Not a word.

Nice. Reminds me a bit of a late Norwegian artist, Edvar Munch.

This painting conveys a lot of words without using any. But more than that it conveys an air of something [I'm not sure quite what] that seems to seep under my skin and stick there. This is political art in its best incarnation - undogmatic, not propaganda. There is a definite ambiguity here - are the women scared and contemplative because of what's already happened (under Saddam), or because of what they anticipate will happen (under US imperialism)(and what has already begun)? That's how 'commentary' art is powerful. Thanks for sharing this piece.

*this* is a wonderful piece of art. The black against the orange/yellow of the sand is exceedingly striking, and the looks in the woman's faces is wary, worried, and pensive- understandably. This is done very well. 2
