I really like the depth in this one. I'm also a firm believer in letting the wood stand alone. I use clear urethane, or more often a clear danish oil. If you wanted to avoid the india ink you could switch to a wood burner.

thanks! I finally settled on using Krylon clear satin acrylic (3 coats and drys fast- sand or steel wool after each) then a topcoat of paste wax.

did you stain the wood, or oil it or something?
it's beautiful....
i especially like the leaves.

thanks! I use the natural wood colors -no stains except india ink for the eye. I use a clear acrylic finish with a paste wax topcoat.
