Ah... the problem with religious "symbols". *rolls eyes*
I loves it! And I do so enjoy your sketches! They have a certain quality that gives them a larger-than-life appearance.

Beautiful! Great job, the design blows my mind, I love how he seems sad that he can do magic...almost ashamed. Perhaps magic is looked down upon in his community, lol, I'd be flipping a nut if I could do that xD LAWL I'd do it all the time, oooooo preeetty! *o*

I really like your shading, and your smoke effects! They're awesome!! And the shading around his face is really cool too. It adds a lot to his expression.

Brilliant piece...
Yeah, it's the star of david.
And noses don't belong in the place of ears but Picasso did it.

I love the detail! And the swirl of magic is very nice. I feel like I can see the spell taking place, even if it's a black and white pencil drawing! ^_^ Love it, love it!

well I could see where some people might get offended, that star is "like" the star of david which is a religious symbol for the Jewish fath. although it is just a picture some people may misunderstand, with the discriminating and religious fanatic pictures on here it's not always easy to tell.

YAAA you really should check your work, do you know thats the star of david, a symbol of judaism, not the five pointed star, a symbol of paganism, witch is often mixed with "black magic" next time make sure you know what stars youre using

InuChanFan [2009-02-16 23:59:54 +0000 UTC]
this is a very good drawing, but it may be seen as controversial because the jewish star of David is being used as a symbol of "dark" magic instead of just using the 5 pointed star.

And actual pagans might find it a bit annoying that their star is being used incorrectly yet again to denote Satanism. I guess nobody wins.
π: 0 β©: 1
InuChanFan In reply to ChangelingJane [2009-02-17 04:09:46 +0000 UTC]
yes, but how many pagans are there currently in existence today? plus, satanism only sounds bad. it's actually about worshiping yourself while you are on earth.
π: 0 β©: 1
ChangelingJane In reply to InuChanFan [2009-02-17 06:49:34 +0000 UTC]
There's a lot of pagans, actually. Most of my friends are pagan. I do know about real Satanism actually, but most people don't. So the stereotypes continue, for both groups
π: 0 β©: 1
InuChanFan In reply to ChangelingJane [2009-02-17 16:53:42 +0000 UTC]
your friends cannot be pagan. being pagan means you lived and practiced a religion before the spread of Christianity in Europe. that was 1500 years ago! they would not be living today. unless you practice some very old religion, it's not possible.
did you mean that they don't practice a religion? if so, then it's atheism, or being egnostic, depending on whether or not you believe in God.
π: 0 β©: 1
ChangelingJane In reply to InuChanFan [2009-02-17 19:02:56 +0000 UTC]
Yes, they can be pagan. Paganism also refers to a belief system that involves more than one god. They do practice religion. They practice religions that are polytheistic, typically nature-based and to some degree based on older religions.
Most modern pagan religions are based on so-called "heathen" religions that Christians tried to incorporate into their own image to draw converts. Granted, there isn't much historic knowledge to work from, so many pagans follow religions that are very personal.
Atheism is almost the polar opposite of paganism--on one side you have no gods, on the other side, many, many gods.
π: 0 β©: 1
InuChanFan In reply to ChangelingJane [2009-02-17 21:02:31 +0000 UTC]
you missed my point. they can be following older religions, ones that are deemed pagan by Christians. but they cannot be classified as true pagans because true pagans people lived before the spread of Christianity. therefore, your friends who are alive today cannot truly be Pagan.
π: 0 β©: 1
ChangelingJane In reply to InuChanFan [2009-02-18 06:46:03 +0000 UTC]
"Pagan" doesn't just refer to those historic religious followings. The word doesn't have one singular definition. It also refers to modern polytheistic religions, and is also sometimes used to refer to non-Judeo-Christian religions in general.
You can argue about who's "true" or "real" or not, but all you're doing is splitting hairs over a semantic argument. And in the meantime, they're all still calling themselves pagans, regardless of how real you claim it is or isn't.
π: 0 β©: 1
InuChanFan In reply to ChangelingJane [2009-02-18 16:26:40 +0000 UTC]
alright, so maybe i dont know everything about paganism. it's not something i've studied. but just because my personal understanding is different from your doesn't mean i'm splitting hairs. i've said nothing contradictory to give that impression.
i say we just end this argument now. i made a simple suggestion that the star of david might be offensive to some people. and i'm sorry you did not like my suggestion to substitute a common religious symbol with a different, more accepted symbol. but the fact of the matter is that starting this argument was pointless. and there's no need to continue to argue over paganism when it wasn't even the original issue. all it's doing is frustrating the both of us. so i say it's time to stop.
